And replace it with a new (to me) iron and oak . Found this 30ton on fb marketplace about 45mins south of me for a steal. They were asking $1250, offered $1k and we settled on $1100 as long as I picked it up today. Other than a little fading on the paint I don't think it's seen much use. The old 26ton iron and oak that dad drug out of the woods in some guys backyard has split countless cords for us but it's been on it's last leg for a while now. Hopefully we'll get just as much life of this new splitter.
Nice! You'll love those log catchers...I'd add on to the one on the engine side...about twice that size would be perfect!
Yes they are! The 26ton would split almost anything I threw at it. Made in America too Yea I was happy to see it had them. With the old splitter I would sometimes set the tractor bucket on the other side to catch the larger rounds as they fell. Good idea on extending the catcher! I was thinking 7-8 years but I dug back in the hoarders archives and ironically we got it 10 years ago back in nov of 2013!
That old one is a great restoration project waiting to happen, too. Those units are fantastic splitters capable of real work. I own an old Iron and Oak horizontal and have been looking for another to fix up over a winter. They are tough to find.
I'll probably work on re-powering it andbthrow some new hydro hoses on it. this winter or spring. It barely runs but it still splits!
Nice- I like both of them! Are either of those fast cycle? I had a 26ton fast cycle and it was terrific.
Now that I think about it, I believe the old one is a 22ton fast cycle. It's been so long since I could read the sticker haha. It's definitely a little faster than the 30
