A couple of piles of end cuts. Thinking I will just load them and bring to the house unless they are too heavy to load. They will burn fast, but quality wood they are.
I believe this will all be (white?) oak. The weeds don't help for showing just how big some of it is.
This picture looks like Hackberry... The mumps on the the bark... Still good wood, a little stringy, but those are good fire starters... and seasons fast... just dont let it set too long in buck form... it has a tends to rot as it ages in that form...
You're probably right Kevin. I know he has both and I've been working some ash. Either way, firewood it will be. Thank you for the correction.
Got most of the truck unloaded and to the backyard. Filled a 330-gallon tote to the roof so should be close to half cord. Hope to finish the pickup tomorrow but we will see. I think I'm closing in on 3 cords for this year and a good portion of next years wood put up. With any luck, I can get another 4-5 cords stashed away and be back on easy street, at least until I get lazy again. Tactor and trailer seem to be working well and much easier than the wheelbarrow.
Neighbor across the street had an elm removed from the backyard. They ended up leaving a small amount for me to process.
Today was I was able to get everything that I cut up hauled out and loaded. Took it out to Bunny's stacking/staging for splitting. Hope to get the remainder this week unless we get the predicted rain. My guess is a full cord of Siberian elm so far. Hopefully it does not put up too much of a fight when split.
It will be sweet after I see how well it splits. I've had some that just pops apart like maple and other, well you know. Memory tells me the light heart wood is the worst hoping for the best. She is looking at having another taken down in her front yard. It's the big leaf and the reason people swear off elm. Got some a few years ago when she had it trimmed, and I ended up giving most away.
Good chance that is what will happen, but hope to try some in the next couple of weeks, you know, research for the forum and all. Plan is to pull the rest out to the truck and just split it right off of it to store here at the house. Hopefully the rain will hold off a few more weeks so I can drag more dead stuff out of the woods and get it staged for splitting. Be nice to split a few more cords of mostly dry stuff before winter sits in.
Anyone want to educate me on the type of oak? Sinuses are not the greatest but doesn't smell bad, just not much of a smell to me. Been down for 5 or so years and heart wood is solid. I believe it to be white but want to see what others think. Thanks
Started out on some maple that we picked up last year. One of the last scores with Lefty. One small and second a larger load. Want to get wood staged for when I loose access to the trees this winter.
