Let's see those bikes

It does get decent mileage but I’m planning on getting 40 mpg pulling this 240 pound trailer. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a little lower than that either.

 

Sounds like you are set! Have fun and take lots of pics. The view on the Parkway is awe inspiring. We saw a bear cub in the ditch as we rode and he beat the feat quick. One field had a deer standing there close to the road taking a #2, looked frozen and didn't move an inch, it was funny & had to be there. I rode for hours at any pace I wished.

I’ve already seen multiple deer and bear riding on Skyline Drive. I have a lifetime disability pass to the National Parks so I ride it often.

Last time we were there a big doe was standing in the middle of the road and held us up for at least five minutes. She was almost close enough to pet. I suspect drivers have been feeding her from their cars so she was looking for a handout. But she was in no hurry to go

TN this last weekend.

 

I rode the Silverwing this morning in sunny but windy 37 degree weather and I’m tolerating it so I’m more at ease about that aspect of it now.

Plus I took it in to a local independent motorcycle shop this morning and had them vacuum bleed the brake lines, change the spark plugs and check over the bike in general for this trip.

I was having stiffness and creep with the rear brake lever this summer but it’s good now since it was bled. I feel much better having had a professional bike mechanic go over it before I ride it 2400 miles.

 

The gas issue has been on my mind since I started thinking about doing the BRP last year. My tank only holds 4 gallons. I usually get 50mpg so that’s about 200 miles a tank - if I really stretch it.

But my mileage is going to take a hit pulling this trailer. I’ll be lucky to get 40mpg.

I just ordered a 5 liter generic Rotopax type gas can off eBay. I’ll have room to store it on the trailer frame. That should extend my distance on a tank another 50 miles, enough that I’m not running on fumes on the BRP looking for gas.

 

Just out of curiosity, is there any cell phone signal anywhere on Skyline or the BRP?

 

Fuel isn't hard to find, just some spots are spaced out. Duc gets about 150ish miles per fill up. If I were on the Superhawk, I'd have been sweating as it's only about 110-120 before the RLED of death comes on.

Any chance you are headed towards Robbinsville (US129 or the Cherohala Skyway)?

 

I don't recall having any really lengthy times w/o service but, I wasn't tuned into my phone a lot. Skyline I don't remember at all. I was following others and we chat most time not paying attention to phones.

 

It looks like it’s less than an hour from the southern end of the BRP to Robbinsville so it’s very doable, but taking that Skyway itself might carry me too far west.

 

Ok thanks. I’m just thinking of emergencies. There probably won’t be much traffic during the week when I’m coming down.

I know a guy that's in his 70s still playing in the dirt. It's fun to get off the beaten path and make your own adventures. Most times in TN we might pass a handful or two of groups the whole day.

 

I've seen soft collapsible fuel bags used by the Jeep/overland bunch but they are likely larger than what you need or want.

My friends here were sitting around laughing tonight, saying they expect a call around December 1st saying, “Hey, what are you doing right now? I’m stuck in a snowstorm on Route 81 and need you to come get me!”

 

Been trying to sell it all summer with only a couple tire kickers looking for wholesale pricing. I know it's a niche bike but dang. Love the bike but don't find any time for it these days. Needing a work truck and the bike is my funding.

 

Probably won't sell 'til spring now...where you advertising it?
