Had been running the gas heater off and on for a few weeks to take the chilliness out of the house when needed but enough of that. Had to fire the wood boiler up this afternoon so fire in the hole it is! I have plenty of junk wood I need to get rid of and what better way than turning it into free heat.

Excellent! I love it! You’ve had good performance from that boiler over the years haven’t you Joe? What kind is it & how long have you had it? On average how many cords do you burn in a season? Thanks.

Optimizer 250 gasification unit. It is rated for 5000 square feet but was the smallest they had at the time.

Plenty of junk wood to go around and I'm thankful I have the owb because I don't know how I would get rid of the junk. Even in our coldest days, if I stuffed the fire box full of good solid oak, I could probably get 30+ hours but I don't fill the box much more than halfway a lot of the times and I like to go out each morning and evening to check on things. At first it was just to keep on eye on things but now it is out of habit.

And just like that, I already forgot to check and load it this morning. Luckily, I have a smart thermostat so I can just turn the heat off the rest of the day and the house won't be too chilly when I get home around 3. House is currently 72 and the weather is cloudy and in the 40's. Ugh, gotta get back into the habit of morning and night!
