    Long story short I usually burn big big splits
    This load I resplit all them down to more average sided firewood. I feel like I can stuff more wood in with smaller splits. The burn time and the temp inside when I get home from work will tell me if this is true or not

    True. To get the longest burn time, a good mixture will allow more wood in the stove to get you that longer burn time we need on cold January nights.

    Burning season has arrived. I had to power up the heating side of the boiler system this mornig. Low 40's today, low 20's tonight. Repeat for the next several days.

    Boiler is loaded up with some ash, and will be for most of the winter.

    Snow piled up 6-8" deep here. Spoke with a neighbor not even 3 miles away and they got 10-12.

    I held off burning longer than I usually do, had some 35 degree nights but today was high 40 , Temperature is setting at 34 right now, going down to 26 tonight, time to rock and roll ,so the stove is choochin as I speak -wood-stove.jpg

    25f as the low tonight, 33 right now.
    Came home after 13.5 hr burn to stove top temps of 203f and house temp of 69, which is really really good for my old big drafty house. Thinking smaller splits do perform slightly better. Tonight's load is ash, silver maple, Bradford pear,pine and some Chinese elm? Not sure on that last one
