That year I dressed as Sinead for Halloween, went to a Dread Zeppelin show, managed to get onstage with their blessing, and ripped up a big picture of J.R. “Bob” Dobbs. “Fight the REAL enemy! - eyiyiyiyiyiyiyi.” It was a hoot back then.

    If ya know ya know.

You may dig Bohren and der Club of Gore, if you haven’t heard them:

Very very David Lynch/Angelo Badalamenti, in a good way - just original enough to be deferential without being derivative IMHO

When I met Gibby Haynes and Jeff Pinkus way back when, I froze. I had absolutely deified those guys. The (can I say it?) Butthole Surfers were, hands down, my favorite band - and shall remain in the top 5 for me, forever. Enjoy. Paul Leary definitely showing his skills here, too.

So I am recovering today from finally having this dammed kidney stone removed. Been dealing with the SOB since I fell out on 10-11, sick as a dog. Haven’t done anything meaningful outside since then. I’ve been climbing the walls and driving my wife crazy.

Thank you, all posters, for a very fun and entertaining thread. I hope I didn’t overstay my welcome, but I had 200 pages of posts to like and respond to!

To the original question in the original post, I’ll just end it here:

Everything by this guy, up to and including “Foley Room” is badassery.

Live shows are awesome too - saw him and met him on this tour (below). Very kind and humble man. And yes he is in the center cube in the video; the show’s visuals featured projections on to a 3-D surface of multiple, variously sized cubes. It’s worth a watch for that alone. Give it a minute - the intro is noisy. And of course it’s not for everyone, but it IS for me. Today. Now.

Those just curious (it’s a long video, skip to 45:06).

Even though I find his new stuff boring (way too minimal), Amon Tobin will always be in my top 3 musicians. You know - “desert island” stuff.

Listening to our favorite band, The Maine.

They dropped a new album in August and we went and saw them about a week after the new album came out. My wife got stung by a wasp in the middle of their show which was outdoors. Well, we found out that she's highly allergic to wasp stings and went into full anaphylactic shock. Her throat started closing up. Luckily there was an excellent EMT staff at the all day concert and they were able to give her an epi pen, steroids, and some other drugs. They released her after about an hour and said if there were any complications, to go to the emergency room. Well. That's what happened. Driving from the concert to the hotel about 10 minutes away, she started breaking out in hives. Insane hives. It was crazy. So off to the emergency room. They got her on an IV and gave her more drugs, mostly steroids. She normalized and was released a few hours later. So we got to go back to the hotel about 12:30 am. We bought the tickets to the Milwaukee show at the end of November right away. So hoping that there's no issues this time and we both can enjoy the band and their new album in person.

I don't mind Pearl Jam so much but it's the half dozen or so radio-friendly songs that got so overplayed the past 30+ years that drive me up a wall.

Arguably their best song. That one's full blast on my players, or not on at all.
That's there album that got me into Nirvana. Went and saw them in Chicago at the Smart Bar with my brother when Nevermind was just released. That was an epic show,

Their 10 album was a big thing when I was a foreign exchange student to Germany in the summer of 92. There was a bar in Hamburg that played that album front to back and as a 17 yr old it was a big deal to me. That album was very memorable and meaningful to me. Plus, Vedder didn't even write any songs on their best album, 10, go figure. ;). Vedder wrote yellow ledbetter. Again go figure.:picard:

I can imagine that was one heck of a time to be in the thick of it. After the hair bands became really uncool practically overnight, fresh music like this must've been explosive. And what a place for a 17 year old kid to be! I'll bet that whole experience over there changed your life.

So very glad your wife was okay. I know by professional experience (and by just being a sentient being) how extremely serious anaphylaxis is. Here’s to hoping your experience in Milwaukee is much better!
