Definitely NO sanding—-my plan is fine steel wool with mineral oil to clean. I was going to use boiled linseed oil to protect, but I’ll check out that gunstock wax. I thought about using straight carnauba wax (one of the three components in Birchwood Casey).

Yeah I’ve been looking for a while, and am pretty happy to find it. $80 at auction was a decent price. I wanted western-style handles (both intact), 6’ length at least, all teeth intact, and not much rust. I’ll clean this one up as much as possible while retaining character/patina.

To me that is a better choice.
Even if you like the look I think it is too nice to just leave it out in the elements.
With availability of this type of thing being more and more limited preserve it as best you can.

Yeah, I didn't realize how hard they are to find. I just had the idea of mounting one on the front of my wood rack and so I did a search of Fbook marketplace and a guy near me was selling the three of them for $75. I offered him $50 for the three of them and he said, "Yeah, that's fine."

With the way things are going you never know. You might need to use these saws in the future.

If there is any value and you put the logo then it will not help with it's value in the future.
Not sure I would do that unless I figured out it basically has no value or obviously didn't care for one reason or another.

So many older things loose value if they are altered or refinished.

    For 30 that wasn't a bad deal.
Unfortunately I don't do any social media. I just don't have time and I think there is more bad than good out there when it comes to it.
Yes I am sure there is a positive side but I just don't see it. Just old school , stubborn and no time to get involved in someone else's BS and nonsense.
This is the "only" internet related group that I belong to and with a place like this I need no more.

What a gorgeous set up. That particular style of handle and guard seems to be the Cadillac of them all. Really nice!
