I had 44 on the scooters thermometer. Burned bark last night and there was enough coals this AM to feed it more.
All silver maple fire tonight. Lows to 40f did my 1st mc% check of the season. 11% on fresh split pieces. This will be our best year yet
Turned out real nice yesterday. Dry all day long and mild enough for no jacket in the late afternoon. Had to wear a jacket while mowing the lawn for maybe the last time (?) in the morning. Dropped to 37 last night. 48/64 now.
Was able to sleep in today, off for an anniversary. Woke @ 9a to 51/76. Let the fire go out as it got too warm inside. Really don't like trying to burn real slow. I'm more a fan of burning a nice hot fire. This is why I don't like not having SS wood. I think I have a new goal, finding some on fbmp/cl.
Yesterday was spent in an area I know you have been in, which we'll just call Traverse city area. But Arcadia comes to mind as I showed someone Inspiration Point, north of Arcadia where you once took a picture overlooking Lake Michigan. We also was at the Sleeping Bear Dunes; Also near Charlevoix and then Gaylord before heading home. It is beautiful right now in most areas.
49 now but we had a gorgeous day at about 65. Going to get the new cat in the stove soon so I can light off if I get the urge.
Youre speaking my language I LOVE it from Ludington to Empire and vacation up there every year. Frankfort/Elberta is my favorite.
Have you tried splitting some of your oak smaller? I don't like burning low either so I've been using small splits of oak as of late and they fit the bill for shorter fires, with the benefit of a short coaling stage.
I drove to town today, it was gorgeous! Yellow trees and red bushes (usually the leaves are blown off or froze and fall). 60* only a breeze and sunny.
43 Tossed in 2 white oak and 2 Loblolly splits The almost instant light up of Pine is making me a fan. Super helpful to get the stubborn petrified white oak burning.
40/66. No fire all day yesterday and expect high 60’s today so none in the next couple days I’d guess. Need to clean ash out after burning all that bark.
Inspiration Point is just a couple miles from my front door. Honk and wave the next time you go by. Fall colors are spectacular this year.
64F in the house this morning. Mid 30s outside when I got up... there was some roof frost in evidence. Don't know if wife had a fire after I left for work this morning or not. She was heading to the MIL's today, so there may not have been any AM fire. Will have to see what may be burning when I get home. Will likely be more chunklies... wife sez we gotta get through our chunklies... happy to oblige! We've also moved our first full splits to the garage for anticipated burning. Shoulder splits this year are poplar... so they should go good. Will have to see if any of these have met the stove yet!
