Hi, all. What do you think of the factory edge on new X27’s? I wasn’t overly impressed with the edge on mine. Granted, I know it’s a splitting axe and doesn’t have to be razor sharp. But I would value the learned opinions/experiences of the forum re: sharpening before first use, or just get swinging, or ‘your mileage may vary’.

I looked at lots of YT and other content and did not find an answer to this question.

    Thanks, y’all.

I've had mine near ten years now and have never whittled on it yet. Still works as good as the day I got it.

I have an X25 and an X27 and have never sharpened either. Mine are still running the factory edge and I think they work great. My 2 cents...

It's not supposed to be razor sharp...if it was you'd have to sharpen it every time you used it (kinda like saw chain)

I've hit the X27 with a flat file a few times. Can't say that it helps any. It's a very good splitter either way.

Been using the Council splitting axe and the Mueller lately

The only time I have done anything to the edge of any of my Fiskars is to file a nick/burr off after hitting a nail in a round.

I've had to hit mine with a file a few times.
Only because occasionally I hit the blacktop driveway where my splitting area is

Pretty sharp to start with so I have hit just a few burrs I put in it with a small file.
    Other than that nothing.

I have the X25 & X27 and rarely sharpen them. Like stated they dont have to be razor sharp unless youre planning on using it to chop down a tree. I dont use a chopping block so they encounter dirt often. With a hydro they dont get used a lot these days.

I have the top one. Works decent. Use it on my hatchets mainly. Have since bought a round stone for the axes.
