That picture of that solo top round looks like walnut... that was the first thing that popped into my mind and then I saw your reply :D... Walnut should be good... easy to split... seasons fast and probably by now some if not all the bark should be loosened up, so you'll end up barkless...

Oh yea Welcome to FHC thescratchylens :handshake:

I’m super anxious to get out there and find out. I’ll post more video/pics(?) when able, since I could use a hand ID’ing this wood.

Thanks, everyone, for the helpful replies and interest thus far.

Looks like a good score if most is solid.

Those rounds standing up vertically.. I've found they wick up moisture real bad if left on the ground like that. I'm betting not rot free on those.

That makes 100% sense. I only checked for rot ‘here and there’. As a former poster suggested, we’ll cherry pick the good stuff (and be fair to the owner).

I'd like the deal better if she was out helping, but it doesn't sound like that is goig to happen.
Bring a splitting maul and pop a few open. Shouldn't take too many swings to decide if you want them or not.

She’s laid up - in a bad way. Otherwise, yep.

I was going off his later post stating it was rot free but i agree with you there.

I think we’re just gonna pass. My buddy and I have plenty of high-BTU dead standing oak available and our time would be better spent on that.

Too bad the land owner didn’t just say “Yes” and let us get started. Instead we’re moving on. Plus Rock County, WI has fresher scrounge-worthy wood EVERYWHERE.

I have pulled the YouTube video since we’re not gonna be using that wood. Thanks everyone for your help and opinions.

The property owner was a bit…odd to deal with. Better to leave the whole thing alone and walk away.

Most definetly. If you are getting red flags before you've even started, it's only gonna get worse.
