A friend and I have our eyes on this. I am in negotiations with the land owner. She’s widowed and infirm. I offered her up to half, according to her needs, split and delivered - and my buddy and I will take half. It’s been raining for days here. The wood is wet but intact.

We’ll see if the photos upload. As a new scrounger I’d welcome more expert opinions.

I keep getting security errors, disallowing me to upload photos. Pretty frustrating.

Well, there’s an enormous stash of wood, but I can’t get the pics to upload. I’ll keep at it for the time being.

From a distance it appears to be black walnut?

I think it’s oak and hickory plus… whatever. More pics coming I hope. Stay tuned. Still working out tech difficulties.

As it happens I’m trying to upload screenshots from a video. I’ll just stick the video on YT and link it. More than one way to get this done!

Your files are too big. You need to crop the pictures to use them here.

Backwoods Savage It’ll have to dry til next year, but it’s a free deposit into my three-year plan!

The wood is solid though - no rot.

Did you move some of it to check condition..rotted, punky buggy? Id want to do that before id commit.

I personally dont like wood that sits like that for too long especially in the warm months as it speeds up the decay/fungi process. From the looks of it the wood has been sitting If its truly off the ground all the better. Not a fan of muddy wood either.

With the two of you it should get done fast and if youre okay at 50/50 its seems fair. Ive done similar deals in the past. Are you able to split on site and leave the mess there?

EDIT: i see the wood is rot free.

It’s been 2 maybe 3 years like that. Not terrible, I think? Especially in rounds off the ground?

Depends on the species. Most one year drying woods start to loose their btu value after sitting on the ground IME. In tree form dead or blowover off the ground longer.

If it works for you then go for it. Even with some punk once dried it will throw heat when burned. As the old cliche here goes it will burn better than snowballs. What does your friend think of the wood?

That downed hickory with the leaves still clinging to it would be my priority. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of good stuff in those piles too, especially any oak should still be good. If any of it was red maple I’m not sure I’d put too much effort into it personally. Kind of hard to tell without being there though. Cherry pick away and I’m sure you’ll make out well

He has only seen the video. We’re gonna have a nice close look next weekend. When we split a few testers, we’ll see what’s up. I would have cut a couple today but am on light duty (post-op). The rounds still feel heavy and tight though.

Oh, and to answer your question, we’ll clean up a little, but not 100% - there’s nothing actually built on the lot.
