‘23/‘24 wood migration begins

Finished moving another row of honey locust after taking the rest of dads black oak to his place. I’m spent.

Used my street legal 4x8.


2 more rows of that to go. Still need to stack the remaining red oak in the basement.

 

Looks like a good day of wooding. Doesnt get much better, well unless maybe a saw was involved.

Bet the pooch was still rearing to go.

 

More migration of wood this evenin. Cut out an hour early and was able to move the rest of the HL. Perfect weather for working in a T-shirt! 3 trailer loads and



and a little bit.


Ol’ Roscoe ran around the stack the whole time. He’s been smelling mice or somethin’.


I plan to stack this chestnut oak on top of the HL to finish off the row. Maybe tomorrow.


Then I’ll have my processing area back!

 

All packed in for this season.


After a few uses of the Log-Ox sling, I can give it a favorable review. Really helps me move wood. Instead of gripping one split in each hand, I can easily carry many. I never became a fan of piling it up on my arm.


My pile of chunks and bark to burn first.



Now on to the chestnut oak outside so I can clear my processing area.

Sprayed a quick line to easily distinguish HL from oak.

Chestnut oak turned out to be 3 trailer loads. Last one was a dandy.


Supervisor is slack’n on the job.

Then 15” single row on top. That’s almost 8’ high.

3.82 cord side by side, .35 single = 4.17 total.

 

Original post, started moving wood in 9/14. Moved 4ish cord in and stacked, then replenished stacks in less than a month. Not bad…

Now I can move on to helping dad and my son split/stack their stash.

 

What a good feeling to have firewood all in! Some folks just don't understand the satisfaction we get. Enjoy it, you earned it!

Measured the 2 rows in the basement. 1.25 cord for a total of 3.14 down there. Typically not enough for a full year.

Sure isn't Miss Carol/T.Jeff level but I do have volume, lol.

 

Yeah their stacks are on a different level.

When is your next saw outing? Gotta get to work refilling.

 

I've not moved wood to the house yet. We have a finished basement with a walkout door in the stove room so I assemble my patio shed every year. Still need to get the summer patio stuff put away. I have one more truck load of oak from my latest area I want to get cut and hauled then I will get focused on moving wood. At least that is the plan.

Thats a convenient set up. My old place had a walk out unfinished basement. I would use a board and push the wheelbarrow right into the basement.

 

I need to get dads pin oak out of the woods, then get my sons stash split so we can bring the splitter to dads and split all his. I'll be on the lookout for primo easy scores for a while. I'm fully stacked right now so no rush. I have a couple ash to cut for dad so plenty of trigger time in my future. The guy that let us get that black oak said we could come back and get more dead wood for him too. And I have the bike shop boss's back 40 that I can get more chestnut oak from.

 

Couple cords there? I'll 2nd Brad's comment, that's definitely convenient. Most of the mess is kept outside.

 

Between the racks is about 1 cord. I really only use the racks of wood to bolt the roof to. I used to cover the whole thing with a big tarp but the roof I made with steel roofing looks and protects so much better. I like seeing it full so usually top it back off every few days...lol

Getting close! It's such a good feeling to have the stacks fully packed.

Wow, somewhere around 15 percent is as dry as it gets here no matter how long it drys.
