Love the fact my garage is attached. Every year I load up the side wall with about 2 face cords of kindling... Running 2 stoves it makes life easy!!
If I squint my eyes it looks like a giant piece of layered chocolate cake, and I get hungry. If I don't squint and see it for what it is, I drool anyway
In the main stove (Jotul F600) maybe one time a week. In the second stove ( Castleton Soapstone) just about every other day.
I have to get my yearly kindling yet. Good friend has a wood shop and makes a lot of crafts for a lady to sell. About 2 feed sacks full gets me through the year.
I don’t make any kindling since I got on the 3 year plan. Load the stove with splits, hit it with the propane torch for about a minute, and sit back and enjoy the fire.
I'm used to an attached garage too, get the stove hot without venturing out in the cold. We rearranged to get splits in our garage too, I thought it would have held more wood. But much better than out in the wind and cold all the time.
That's a lot of kindlin. And here I thought I did good this year gathering a couple buckets worth of splitter leavings. Usually I just pick stuff off my splits to get some starting wood. There's always some strings and flaps on the pieces. A 1"x1" chunk of fancy city log (duraflame) made with a hatchet to help it along. You can make a lot of 'fire starters' out of one $5 duraflame log, I've found.
