There ARE some "organic" lawn fertilizers that work well. We use it on the park you see in the pic I posted above (the "park" is the area with the play set in the background), due to all the kids that are there.

Lime is your friend.....you cannot over-lime. And a good quality spring "pre-emergent" weed & feed, plus a summer & fall treatment will make a big difference.

And yes, the Kentucky BlueGrass is beautiful, but doesn't do well during heat/drought. Does poorly in shady areas. Susceptible to Leaf Spot and Necrotic Ring Spot diseases. Tends to create an excessive thatch layer quickly. Very slow to germinate (3 weeks).

Yesterday my dump find Poulan leaf blower abruptly stopped running, sputtering and backfired and slowly stopped running. hmmm... So I figured the flywheel must have loosened and lost timing.

Pull it all part and nope, that's still good. Pull the carb apart thinking it needs cleaning and nope, that's still good, Ohm out the coil and the high side is D.O.A. (sigh) well that explains why the spark looked so weak.

Doesn't take these things long to become "obsolete" I know, but still... I tried a local place that has a repair shop and also happens to be my LGS. Gave them a Husqvarna number that cross references to a host of other brand's numbers, in the hopes at least one part number would find me a coil. Nope, but they can get me one, but don't know how long it would take and it would be almost $35.

On the way back I swing by two hole in the woods small engine repair shops, (well before noon) and they are both shut tight. (sigh again)

...fine... (sigh again) amazon it is. $14 and it'll be here tomorrow.

I fired up the stove and at least it's warm in the garage this chilly morning while I was working on it. Running on low burning off all the WD40.

My lawn is a grab bag. I’ll mix inoculated grass seed, clover, creeping thyme, and a few others.

Some nice moss in a few spots I transplant.

Check CL and FBMP for someone selling and old one. Buy it for spare parts (or sometimes they work better than the one you already have so hour original can be spare parts).

Hu, didn't know that so I looked it up. Sure enough, that is what "they" say.

The patch I put in did go dormant last year and the year before during the drought, but no worse than anything else (a large variety of weeds and some sort of grass) in the yard. First to come back when we got some rain too. Right now it is the greenest part of the yard even though it isn't getting that much natural moisture. At best I've been getting about 1" per week lately and there have been several weeks that were less ("they" say KB needs 2" per week). But, it has been a mostly cool summer, and super dark/cloudy, so that probably plays a part. IDK what kind of grass is in other parts of the yard, but the KB always performs better.

It's only been in a couple of years (installed 2020) so thatch hasn't been an issue yet. Well, as far as I know. I'm a hands-off sort of person, besides mowing, so in a couple of years it may be a wreck :D

New coil will be here today, a-la' scamazon prime.

Many of these consumer grade box store power tools have a manufacturers expected life of only 50 hours. so a couple parts here and there is no biggie to me, still way less costly than buying a new throw away. I enjoy fixing things, and people throw good stuff away at the first hint of inconvenience so it's a win-win.

The scrap pile at the dump and I have a pretty good relationship, I only take things I have a need for and it usually provides them (eventually) in return.

Few years back I found a tiny gas leaf blower and used it for a year or so until I found this one. Had to buy a few parts at first, but it was a huge improvement over the elbow grease powered one that's staring to wear out.
Then I returned the little one to where I found it with a note that it worked.

Again, few years back, I found a electric pressure washer, which was a huge improvement over the elbow grease powered one that's starting to wear out. Late last summer I found a Craftsman gas pressure washer that needed ...well... nothing actually.

Put gas and a spark plug in it and fired right up, then I returned the electric one to whence it came, again with a note indicating it worked.

Bought a new higher pressure hose, changed the engine and pump oil, and just yesterday finished pressure washing the entire house with it. (now I have trim to repaint dang it)

Chain saws, weedwackers, lawn mowers, pellet stove parts, sheet metal for welding repairs, angle iron, steel pipe, hardware and on and on.... makes it difficult to turn down, but I'd be up to my eyeballs if I brought home everything that catches my eye.

Spent yesterday up on the roof(should I consider it a raise). The heavy rain we had was fine until the wind joined in on the fun. Showed a few leakes on the rear porch and out on the catio. The rear porch was several loose tiles and a few pulled up nails. Got some roof goop and spent an hour or so swackin nails and gooping the tiles back down. Catio was caulking around the flashing literally blew up and I was able to easily pull it off. So a layer of goop nad another trip to the hardware store for some heavy duty caulk.

Fingers crossed, But won't know until the next rain if I did actually repair it or need to take another swing.

Back to pointing the stone foundation if the back allows. But its barkin pretty good and the knees ain't too happy either!

Advil is also hard on the Kidneys too..

Back in 2013 when I had my left Kidney removed because it had a BIG AZZ TUMOR the Doc cautioned me about pain meds.....Anything with IBUPROFEN WAS A NO NO

Tylenol was a safer choice ......Or any Acetaminophen based pain relief type drug.

Just never gave that stuff much thought before

Been cool and wet the past several days off and on....Running the little stove and enjoying the warmth.

Now we are supposed to get a quick short lived ( 3 days or so) with temps back near 80F
Then back to the 50's with rain next week....
