I got it off there without removing the carb but it was a pain. That black part in the side cover pops out.

    Yes the whole thing.
I figured out about the black collar part after I got it off the hard way.

So I'm going to dye the top cover and air filter cover black on my RedMax so it looks more Jonseredish. Lol

That black part around the adjustment screws needs to come out before removing the lid. Its kinda delicate.

Poor engineering on the top cover is my opinion.... and I'm sticking to it.

Agreed. Just use a rubber part like other saws with holes for screwdrivers. No need for the idle speed knob. Mine might go away.

Of course its a non issue if you just leave the cover on but oh no....I had to look under the hood. The plug and air filter are accessible without removing the hood.

Hopefully I'm going to take the redmax out for some limbing exercise tomorrow, got a few limby white pines and some cedar as well.

I'm trying not to use mine till the orange one has maxed out power and compression wise stock. Then, I'll then do my OCD cleaning of it so when huskihl gets it it looks unused. Only then will I get after the redmax. I'm going mod that one maseff.

This little gem has 8 -9 month old saw dust on it somewhere. Lol. Another of my favorites. 39cc. Light. Nice ergonomics. Shame Dolmar is gone.
