Vogelzang Ponderosa stove was getting pretty worn out after continuous October to April use for 10 years. At 67 years old, we weighed out the cost of all the parts the Ponderosa needed vs the new Drolet Escape 2100 on sale at $1399. Decided to order the Drolet from My Fireplace Products which should last us until we decide to quit burning full time and keep it for emergency use only. The years and the 3 cancers keep me pretty fatigued, but I'm not giving up my love of getting out and processing firewood, there's just something about knowing you did the work yourself. I'll post some photos when it gets delivered and I get it set up.
Post your experience/opinion of the 2100 when you get it up and running. Betting you will be pleased.
The stove left Madison Heights, VA on 9/27, today it made it to Knoxville, Tenn. Supposed to be delivered Tuesday 10/3. So far I have had a fantastic buying experience with My Fireplace Products.
I had a Drolet el dorado and enjoyed it. I was very impressed by it, Drolet seems to have a great product. Congrats on your purchase!
Stove left Virginia on 9/27 and is in Saint Louis as of 9am this morning, only about 20 miles away. I'm impressed with the Saia trucking company, I'm not used to fast shipping these days.
I went with your previous advise and went with MyFireplaceProducts. So far it's been an excellent experience. Thank you.
No, it's a free liftgate, but it's hard to get a truck down our little gravel road. Last stove we bought 10 years ago, I hooked my trailer up and met him at the end of our road. The driver dropped the liftgate part way then I lowered my tailgate on to his liftgate and just rolled the stove on to my trailer. It's the getting it off the trailer, which I back up to the basement door, then into the basement that's a little tough for me and the wife. We're ten years older now so it will be a little harder, but we will manage. We have some friends that have strong backed boys which might be the ticket.
Work smart, not hard! Leverage, and things that roll are your friends! (pipe works good for heavy stuff like stoves) I can't recall now who it was, but someone here told of using a hula hoop full of golf balls to roll their new gun safe to its permanent spot, and the kids kept the occasional escaped balls cycled back into service.
Met the delivery truck this afternoon, lowered my trailer tailgate on to his liftgate and rolled it right on the trailer. Got the stove (500 pounds) to the basement door and inside the door and left it at that for this evening. As soon as I get the connector pipe hooked up and a fire in it I will take you all some pics.
Here it is ready to start those small fires and work my way up. Have to get the stinking done before we have to close up the house. I'll post some photos of the fire later on, maybe Friday. Tomorrow is our 38th Wedding Anniversary, taking my bestest friend out to eat, so no fires.
