Just started third fire of the season. Going to run it up to about 76 or so and let it go out.

Yesterday was a cooler and rainy day. Really didn't need a fire, but I was having a bad day and thought a fire may help with my attitude. Also wanted to be sure all was good to go after the sweeping and cleaning last week.

Mom had her first fire on Sept 15, right around the time she usually has it. The days are getting damper and cooler. With the wind predicted for today, I lit a fire for her yesterday afternoon and filled the firebox. With coals remaining this morning, she will be down to keep wood on it for the rest of the day. Not that she doesn't know how to start a fire herself, it just takes more energy now. She still can make kindling better than I ever could. I need to use the electric wood splitter she has for that.

Because we burn year round with the wood boiler, the days between firing just gets shorter as the weather gets colder.

Fired up the Heatmaster on Friday. I've read that these gasification boilers don't like to be idled they like to be run hard, Hopefully it will be okay

    You need heat already?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you run that machine much in this weather, it is going to be a slobbery black mess inside, and the turbs may even get stuck. You may want to look into installing a hot water storage tank, that way you can just charge the tank up as needed, let the boiler off the rest of the time...if you still have a bulk tank in the old milkhouse, I hear those work good for storage.

Mother in law is cold so we built a fire. I took the whole thing apart Friday & cleaned it thoroughly. They are having trouble with their oil burner & we are waiting for a part.

Thanks Backwoods Savage. Would be better if I would be allowed to toss the tv out the window though.

Well I caved in today , had a small fire in the garage just to get rid of the dampness.
It was time for some reorganization so I can get my car done for next season.
Way behind to say the least.

    The season has started,

We do still have the bulk tanks. One holds 400+ gallons & the other 600+ They are still in the milk house though how would I have to pipe them to make them work with the 2 houses I wonder. Sorry I didn't mean to derail this topic.:faint:

The question could be posed on one of the existing boiler threads...or a new one started...

No first fire of the season for us yet. Supposed to be in the 80's this weekend into the first part of next week.
