Gentlemen, what is considered to be the best lighting for hand filling a chainsaw chain. Are you using any special setup to view the chain? Iam currently filling my chains on the saw and in a vice, just cant seem to get the light in the right place to see how sharp the cutters are. Any help would be appreciated.
I like filling outside in natural light the best. In the shop at work I have an overhead light that lowers over the vise to brighten things up.
I used an LED strip light similar to this: Just zip tie or rubber band it to something that will hold it where ya want it. Can't find a pic of my set up right now.
Thanks Gents for the recommendations of your use, they will give something to look into. Just have to find which will work for me

Have never used any special lighting. So long as there is enough for me to see the 'shiny' spots I'm usually GTG. I'm 50/50 on field sharpening vs vise. I can see better outside, but I can feel better in the vise. I suppose a vise located outside would be ideal for me. lol
I have an overhead flourescent light but still kinda struggle with my aging eyes. I hand file and take my time. A cheapo battery articulating light from Harbor Freight may help. I sharpen often on the tailgate of the truck.
My wife bought me two of those for my barbecue never thought of using them over my vice until right now! Haha thanks for the tip!
I use the 2 in 1 pferd hand file jig thing…the rails have the angles etched into them so i just look at that
Again the woodsplitter to the rescue ! If I do rock a chain in the woods can do a good job of sharpening !
