Yep, I am a full service firewood dude and advertise as such. You don't go into a restaurant with your own plate and say you will go into the kitchen and have the chef put it onto your plate and ask for a discount. I sell every stick of the firewood I produce. It will depart the woodyard tomorrow, next week, or next month.
I use to put all sorts of padding in my truck to protect it from the wood. What a doofus I was and maybe still am?
Have more deliveries scheduled for tomorrow and the next day, whatever day that is. No tips, prices will go up. My first delivery today was to a single older lady. No drama. She was at work and taped an envelope with $275 to the firewood rack. I feel good that I gave her the same amount and quality of firewood that the CEO dude received. Never any complaints or slights from the working class. I sort of feel like the undercover CEO when delivering firewood. I like seeing how the wealthy live and fail just like everybody else. Will take a while for this to get out of my head. The wife today told me her husband is always screwing things up. Nice to be a screwup worth tens of millions.
One of today’s customer contacts responded to my white oak ad. We exchanged all the necessaries and he then said “please bring oak.” Guessing he has been screwed in previous deliveries. Why are all these people contacting me for firewood? I am just a simple guy with a few saws and a 30 year old splitter.
Looking at Google maps overhead view, I am guessing it took 10 semi loads of shingles to cover all of his roof.
Word of mouth. Or, I had 3 tons split delivered (dump truck dumped in front) and several neighbors were asking, maybe some of your customers had parties or BBQ's and their guests noticed the wood and asked who you were?
Exactly. My customers with patio fireplaces always have a huge flat screen hanging for watching football with friends and neighbors. As I have said before, I make one delivery in a neighborhood and that opens the floodgates.
Stacking is built into my price. Take it or leave it is my motto. Think only one customer out of many hundreds of deliveries didn't want it stacked. He wanted his sons to do it probably to build some character.
I stored wood in my garage in have a lot of customers who do as well. Don't know what's odd or funny about that. It's not in the weather and you don't have to worry about putting on shoes or cold weather clothes to quickly bring some into the house.
I have a friend who does it to this day, only thing he has issues with is the Dreaded (Stink Bug) infestation. He also had a billion ants in his garage one year.
What was funny to me was that the stack was about 6-8' away from his Porsche and he didn't want it over two feet high so it wouldn't collapse onto the car; not that the firewood was placed in the garage. I stack firewood in garages all the time. Once it is seasoned, a great place if there is room. And I always recommend white oak for storage inside the house, patios, or garages since it is very pest resistant. Quick lunch and now back to work.
