FINALLY yesterday I got all the sealer off the floor. Took four days, the stripper is so nasty, you cannot be in there for more than about 20 minutes, even with the windows open and the fan going full blast!

Putting new coat of shellac on the walls today, then off to Canada for the Port Credit blues fest and lots of Rickerts' Reds.

Everyone have a safe and sane holiday, and Griz don't get all wazzeled up and cut down any of the courthouse trees!

Cut and fitted the first third of the slate floor yesterday, will set that today. Then four more days of fitting and setting stone. Wait three days cure time for the type-S, then seal the stone and be moving back in next weekend.......Whoopee!

The Port Credit 'Blues Fest' was great plenty of blues music and lots of the best beers in Canada, best band was 'Mississippi Blues' from Mississippi, black folks that REALLY played the blues! If you live in the NE US or Ontario Canada this is a great time, Port Credit really rolls out the Red Carpet! You should try to make it! Usually in the first weekend after Labor Day. OH! and some coffee from BC 'Kicking Horse' brand 'Kick azz' type great stuff, if you like decaffinated 'Half azz' is the one for you!

Well the floor is coming along. Have about a third done, however it is raining today, so can't mix mud in the rain. Spent most of the day cutting and fitting stone. If no rain tomorrow then perhaps get another third done. Here are some pics of the work so far. Going to have to go get another 10 bags of type-S and another bag of portland. Stove is a pre-EPA Grand Godin Model 3720, top loaded, wood or coal fired. Made in France by a company that has been making the same stove since 1848, supposed to be able to heat a 27 square meter 300sqft European home. It will provide heat for almost 72 hours on one 5gal pail of nut coal.

Well, it rained all day today, and is supposed to rain all day Saturday. So, we cut and fit the rest of the stone today. Cannot set stone in the rain because the rain messes with the mud big time. So probably no work on the shop until Sunday perhaps Monday.

The 'high note' of the day was that I located the last NIB Solo 681 in the United States, thanks to my buddy @Solo Germany and purchased it, WOO HOOO! Now it is my turn to put up a million and two GRIZ posts! LOL!

The floor will be a wonderful accent to all the woodwork when complete.
I've only done one natural slate entrance way and it is time consuming - well worth the result though.

Have to ask - How long did you fret over the stove setting below the finished grade?

Basod, the stove/fleu and chiminy were all set up prior to my wife and I deciding that we had to have a new patio/hard-scape in the back yard and did not want to waste the 1 inch slate that was the patio. We decided to use the slate as a new shop floor. So, since the stove was set up for the concrete floor we had to go with that height. The Godin only can handle one 90° turn to the flue, so to put the stove on top of the slate would have meant that the stove exit flue would have been at a downward angle, not good, and I wasn't into tearing the chimney apart. Given that, I really had no choice. After all it is just a shop. Not to mention that the slate would not have been able to handle the 400° heat under the stove.

The way the Godin burns there is little heat under the stove. In my stove the actual fire is at least 12" above the bottom of the stove, below that is the shaker grate then the ash pan and finally the bottom cast iron plate. All of the Godins I have seen here also have the bottom heat sheild. The bricks under my Godin rarely get above 120 degrees F.

Your stove looks great in that room...

I understand, you are probably a modest perfectionist (like myself) sometimes I have to just say WTH - or I make up some excuse like it's easier to sweep the floor into the hearth and vacuum it up:yes:

Did you by chance cut any of the stone with a Solo?

Thank you KaptJaq for the compliment. It is nice to finally find someone who knows what a Godin is and actually has one. I do not have the bottom heat shield. I have two of them the Grand and a Petit Godin. Fine stoves, you can still get parts for them from Droilet in Montreal CA!
