Colder here. What's your temp? What ya burnin?

This is about as perfect a forecast as I could wish for. I was going to have a fire outside tonight but it’s still a little breezy. Maybe next weekend. I just planted more lettuce, radishes, Swiss chard and spinach. I love this time of year.

 

If I was desperate, it would be elm. Willow is worthless. I’d just noodle every piece, no splitting.

Lets hope hey? It sure is amazing how many areas south of the border were affected by smoke this summer. We still have smoke from other fires that are still active but it comes and goes. I was just outside and it still smells a bit like a campfire but I havent seen any hot spots pop up for a while now. It was pretty scary. We were on evacuation alert and I could have hiked 10 minutes from my house to the base of the fire. We had burnt needles and lots of ash landing in the yard. Here are a few pics taken from my house. The one taken from inside our house was taken by my wife who was laying on the couch.

 

Cooler and overcast earliet today. Then the rain came. Though I was able to stack face cord of splits on the deck, sweep the chimney, clean the CC and go over the stove before it moved in. Currently raining pretty steady.

 

Can't like that, but glad you have been safe through it.

 

57 and rainy. Temps to be mid seventies and peak at 80 by Thursday this week.

We actually packed up our camping trailer and took it 60 minutes away to a lake front camp site that we enjoy. We kept it there for a few weeks and then returned. The interesting thing about an evacuation alert here is that they wont let you drive your camping trailers out of town if it becomes an evacuation order. Im assuming thats because of traffic congestion issues. This all happened shortly after I had major abdominal surgery so I was pretty fragile. I joked with my wife that my life was starting to sound like a country song. I had surgery, then a day after that my wife put Tundra down (in my avatar) then after a week in hospital I came home and shortly after we were on an evacuation alert. Its been a busy summer!

 

Thanks. We sure are grateful for all the fire fighters that came to our little town to help protect us. It was interesting learning about how they fought the fire from seeing ground crews to helicopter drops and some retardant bombers. There were forest fire crews as well as firefighters from cities and towns all over western Canada that showed up in their fire trucks. Some are still here. We were much more fortunate than many other areas. Sure is a lot of blackened dead fir and larch laying around though. What a mess that will be to process! I heard a chainsaw the other day so I hiked over to see where they were cutting a few days later. I found it but it didnt look like they went to far into that project. It looked like someone took a bunch of rounds out of a pine and then left. Im thinking I will leave these trees for others. I dont mind the odd green larch or fir in my yard to season but add the mess of burnt on top of that. No thanks.

Looks like some possible rain coming. We can use it but could hinder harvest that is under way.
