Looks like normal stack of red oak, eh? That's because it is. Here is the new red oak stack. Cord wood deer blind. This was inspired by Backwoods Savage. Dennis has a few of these on his property. This blind will only be used only for archery season, its close to the house. The deer come in from the right of the "wood stack" there are 3 persimmon trees in front of it. I can sit in a chair but not stand. That's ok though, I hunted out of a debris blind last year and was successful but was absolutely uncomfortable. Its not wind proof but it will keep me dry. I'm up to my ears in wood so i figured why not. A pop up deer blind that'll fall apart would cost me $100 +. No thanks, Ill spend that on saw chain and bar oil instead. Building this afternoon... Dog had fun eating persimmons and hunting voles and mice. She was successful today, one of each. She did not lift one split but kept morale high. Looking out the front. Out the right side window down the hill. This is the deer highway through my property. Pond is down below as well. The smell inside is heavenly. Patented, proprietary, freshly split red oak scentguard technology™. I still need to get something to cover the door and the side openings. I also need a good swivel chair. I was in a big hurry to get it up before deer season and acclimate the deer to the blind being there. It'll blend right in on my property. Thanks.
Looks great and should serve you well. Probably a good idea you used fresh split too, as it will help mask your own scent. When does archery season open up in Ohio?
Thanks! September 29th is starting date, 2 weeks from today. Season ends February 4th, my county limit is 3 deer total, 1 buck only. I might wait longer, for ease of processing.
It's actually Sat. Sept 30th.....lol.....but I agree on the wait. Last year even first day of gun was warm in end of Nov. Shot a buck at 7 and had to process that evening.
That would be perfect for using a crossbow. Great idea. Have grouped a few round bales together with space between them for a blind that has worked very well. Just didn't ever put a roof on it, duh. Great idea, good luck with deer harvest!.
Looking good. You are right about the swivel seat. Those are great. I think the only thing I did differently is to place a board of some sort across the bottom of the shooting window. This provides a nice rest for better shooting.
Great minds think alike. I had some from my debris blind last year. It should be dark enough. I have it hanging off a fallen persimmon limb. Side in view. It smell amazing in there. That's the plan! Excalibur Axe 340. Wood pile in the rear.
Can anybody use a crossbow in Ohio? I wish I could hear. My neighbor is disabled and uses one it shoots laser beams. Hit a doe off his deck at 80 yards right in the heart.
Trying to take a picture through binoculars is quite difficult. Just saw this guy admiring my new stack. Couldny get it focused before he walked further down. Thanks! She is quite vocal, lots of howling when goaded. She also "requires" pets, she is quite firm on her expectations.
Yes, I know in some states you can't without medical stipulations or not at all. I think for me it is more ethical, I think of it as harvesting meat not hunting. Years back everybody was clutching their pearls when compound bows took favor over recurve bows, lots of gate keeping etc. Its no different with crossbows. If folks are going outdoors and hunting that's a good thing.
Very cool! Last year my son made a deer blind out of 4' dead BL logs I had staged in the woods. Though he didn't put a roof on his. Had several deer come in, but not the buck he wanted. Many walked right along the side of it.
