Which way to face new stove location installation?

Installing a new stove soon, it's in a ~8 x 8' alcove off the living room, with a ~6' opening (standard sliding glass door size).

First I thought it should face the living room so I could see when it needed to be stoked, then read cat stoves don't flame. New to cat stoves...

Second, thought if I cant see flames, might as well face the door to our garage and it'll be easier to chuck wood in from there, just a few feet away, and less steps on flooring that can be slippery with snowy shoes (which will melt quickly since that room will be really really warm).

Third, well duh, it has an attached blower, silly for the stove blower to be facing the garage, we need it facing the living room.

Both of us are keen on chucking wood directly in from the garage door. I'm not keen on having the blower facing the garage but dig the easier stoking, WWW said that room will be SO hot the heat will pour out on it's own.

    Thoughts?

My vote is for the easier stoking. The heat will make its way out even if the blower is not aimed in the best direction.
The stoking goes on and on and on...... might as well make it the most efficient way.
Is it possible to get it set up to redirect the flow from the blower?

Face the room. You can keep an eye on things that way, including when to add wood.

In addition, you need to know when to engage the cat and know if it is working.

Besides, the only backside I want to stare at is not an inanimate object. Keep the home looking like a home.

That looks really, really nice. Definitely if that's the case I would want to see the flames.

I’d have it face the room you can view it from. You still get dancing secondaries to watch.

Study the operator manual closely while you are waiting.

Stove will face the living room, thank you fellas' :) Very tempted to face it sideways to living room but this funky old 3 additions house is weird enough, Dennis's comment was spot on! And now I know there can/will be flames. I had iron doors for a couple decades and had to get up and open them to see, despite the glass on the pellet stove glass wood stove is new to me.

I'll have 86" of floor from front to back of room, still allows decent clearance in front of the stove for loading, ~ 3' , as well as the door opens in the correct direction for our situation (or swings left, garage door on right where splits will be stacked).

Floor runners like Eric VW suggested, one in front of the stove, smaller one in front of garage door. Densdeck under vinyl flooring and will be on the walls eventually too. It'll sit on concrete roofing pavers that add another 2" of height for stoking.

Pipe will go 45* out to enclosed porch with cleanout tee there (sheltered from wind!!!!!!!!!) and up through there. Hope I can find a clean out tee that accepts a 45* angle. I'll ask the dealer, maybe two 45's could be a lot less $, but don't want to add extra stack height, we'll see.

Edit, bummer, door on other side and wall stud alignment, will not have 3' in front of the stove, we have to bring it forward.

I think you are going to love that new BK 40. It’s the closest thing you can get to my black rock burner, minus the blue flames of course, as well as minus having to empty ash twice a day in winter.

Oh good to hear, thanks! I know a cat stove will be a learning curve (we had one the first winter we moved here but the cat was toast, 1/2 already crumbled off when we got here), so in reality, new to cat stoves.

Why twice a day in the winter?

I was referring to emptying ash from my coal stove twice a day in winter.

You’ll empty ash in that big BKK probably once every two weeks, or maybe once a month. That’s a good thing.

My coal stove has the same type thermostat on the back. The BK thermostat…once you get used to it you’ll wonder why you ever had a stove without one. Every wood stove should have one in my mind.

Can we see a picture of your setup? I'd like to see the alcove and the orientation of the room... maybe I'm not thinking this out proper, but I feel there is only one way to place the stove... usually not debatable, unless this is all new construction and you have several different options maybe...
