Can someone explain what the 362 XE series meant at the time?

It could just be a typo by the person selling the saw?

Does the newer 362XP hold less value? I've seen some of these (photo attached) at a lower price compared to the old ones which seem to be valued in the $600-900 range.

Either version of the 346XP makes a ripper when ported and some upgrades added.

Runs just fine and one of the most reliable starting saws I own. You probably just didn’t have enough umph to pull over a powerful Husqvarna engine.

Nobody's mentioned any red Husqvarnas. I'd really like a 2171 or 2172 in nice shape, but they seem to fetch even more than the orange versions.

Probably gonna take it out this weekend. I have 2 dead cedars, a nasty ugly ashed cottonwood, and I think 9 standing dead elms to take down. A couple of the elms is pretty good sized.
I should be able to squeeze in a couple cuts with your name on them with the 266

The 346xp saws use to sell for less than 500 new. The Jonsered 2153 is the red edition You should collect both!

I got this saw for $250. After doing some research, it sounds like this saw is similar to the 350 I love, but more HP. Thoughts anyone? Additionally, what parts are needed to make the 350 a 346XP?

You bought that 346 for $250?
And all you need for the 350 is a 346 top end kit, so cylinder and piston/ring. Doesn't really convert it since 350 is plastic case vs. the 346's mag case. But it makes 'em run much better. And I'll add, you wanna stick with OEM parts. Most aftermarket kits are not worth the price you pay.
If you want to get into the ported saw world, that is a great place to start. Listen to this bugger:
