I was comparing the two because I'm getting ready to install a stove in my soon to be finished basement. It really surprised me how two identical brands of piping can be so different in prices on certain pieces. The wall tee for instance, $230 at Lowes and $80 at Menards. The clamps that go around the pipe joints, $33 or $34 at lowes a piece and $14 at Menards. I have to go to Lowes tomorrow for some other things for the basement and I'm gonna try my luck at price matching. Otherwise I'm gonna take Menards up on there $64 dollar shipping and have it sent to my house.

We had the same revelation when we installed ours. Menards beats them on stove prices too.

Lowes claims to price match, so I'm gonna walk in there tomorrow with my phone and see what they can do.

I'm in PA and we don't even have a local Menards. But I printed out Menards prices and took them in and said I'd like to buy local but if they can't match it I'm going to drive out to Ohio to buy it. Lowes matched them, no questions asked. It's worth a try, I saved 25-30% over Lowes listed prices.

Good to know, shouldn't be a problem then. Lowes is about 25 miles away and Menards is a out 45 miles, for the price difference I would gladly drive!

Prices must have gone up, but yep, Menard's has much gooder prices on the Selkirk stuff.
Got all mine there. That's why it pays to shop around.
Why pay so much more for exactly the same product?:hair:

Menard's has the stuff on sale a lot, though you may have missed it for the season.

They also have a storewide 11% rebate quite often, you just have watch the ads. It gets you store credit, but I spend a fair amount of time there.

I asked the guy at Menards if there has already been a sale and he said no, but doesn't know when there will be one.

JeffT- I know the feeling! 99lbs tells me for the amount of time I spend there, I should be on the timeclock!

Stickbender- I know that Menards does a price guarantee. That is if an item goes on sale after you buy it, they would give you the sale price by bringing in the receipt. I can't remember what time frame requirement has to be met though...maybe 15 days?

The two closest Menard's here are about 45-60 minutes away, in opposite directions. The Holland, OH store was substantially less expensive than the Jackson, MI store on all the Supervent stuff. Like $10 less for an 8"x36" pipe section, and just less on everything else. I found this out by changing my home store location. It does pay to look around.

Now that's just weird that 2 fairly close Menards would have different prices.
When I changed from the Traverse City store to the Saginaw store (approx. the same distance from me in somewhat opposite directions), I got the same prices.

I imagine it has something to do with two different states.

They matched all the prices plus beat them by 10%! But, I spent nearly and hour and half at lowes this morning. Luckily I had my iPhone with me with the Menards app so they could have the parts number, because they were having trouble looking up parts.

I noticed the same thing when I put in my pellet furnace. I got a lot of my parts there in January 2013 when they still had their New Years 'if it fits in the bag get a discount' sale. I bought my wood burning insert at Menards in spring of 2004. It was a floor model and I got it out the door for $549.

Their prices seem to be better on most everything, with a few exceptions. My wife played the price matching game when I redid the bathroom a few years back. Lowes ended up beating everyone that time.

It doesn't hurt that in my case, Lowes, Menards and Home Depot are all within a few miles of each other.
