Soon enough Dave, you won't be worrying about coons. The bears will be there first, and making a much bigger mess. My trash has to be stored in the garage from April to November.
My first fire is usually after Halloween, I'm in no hurry to start as it goes on until Late April. We like the cold in October, because summer is just too darn hot.
My first fire is anywhere from mid August to mid October. They will be small and short lived with days between in the beginning.
I figured it was getting close to lumber cutoff time with you. The other evening it was chilly in CT so VT had to be almost burning weather.
I noticed it was getting darker the other day as well...loosing light by 8:30 now...... We usually have a far last of Oct, maybe...
Not happy about it, we barely had any summer days here. Last night I'm guessing was 40's, today did not break 60*. Kids bus does not get home til 4:45 this year, poor thing will be going to school in the dark AND coming home in the dark for longer this winter.
Ended up taking the dogs for a ride to lake superior, a week ago. (Yeah, I know what my life has evolved into now...... ) Anyhoo, 99 says sunset was a few minutes after 8:00 that evening. We enjoyed it while walking the wolf descendants along the shoreline and having our arms getting as close to dislocated as possible! The mornings and evenings are closing in on the daylight; leaves are not only beginning to change color but also have been dropping as they must be getting weaker. Edit: I forgot to add that while there, 99 pointed out a "Birds Aren't Real" sticker on a vehicle!
I've noticed days are getting shorter, but not cooler. The other day the exterior lights were being worked on at work while we were leaving. I said to my coworker, just think in a few months it's going to be dark at 5:00. He had some choice words for me because he hates winter. My wife went back to school on Thursday, but was going in before that for the last week. Of course being the loving husband I am, I do an irish jig every year and make rhymes of how school is back in session.
