Goodbye sweet Rita. You were always ready to immediately forgive my transgressions such as giving you baths or making you take meds. You talked a good game and would growl mightily, or would try to push away whatever was bothering you with your paws, but never ever used your claws or teeth. You hung on for as long as you could and I'm glad I could give you a final release from your pain, although it hurt my heart to do so. Play free my good kitty.

Always tough with the passing of a pet. It's the worst part of the contract we make with them.

Negative, but I finally figured out the fi collar after a recommendation from others with livestock guardian dogs and it works pretty good. Unless you are looking for a strictly GPS collar.

Fi has a base station in the house. I set a perimeter around the house that has about a 200 foot radius around the house. Once the dog passes this radius, I get an alert on my phone. It keeps track of him via wifi, and once he's out of range it switches to cellular. Once he's out of cellular range (which is very common here) it switches to GPS. The GPS marks a tag of where he is every minute. The collar lasts at least a month between charges.

When Birch does get out (and he does quite often) I get an alert and I can track him. Most areas to my south are unreachable except by maybe a helicopter or on foot. If he goes that way he may never be found. The rest of the directions there are back roads enabling me to cut him off thanks to the pins put on the map by the GPS. Although this can shorten the battery life of the collar, if he's missing at night and I head him off, I can turn on a light in his collar to pinpoint his location in the dark.

Here's a map when he runs off. It says Birch was on a walk, but not really! After I get an alert, I click lost dog mode which keeps me updated in real time. I was still learning this whole setup, and didn't trigger the lost dog mode right away. He was actually gone for two hours not 23 minutes. By the time I enabled the GPS he was far (that's why there is a straight line)

Thanks for the info. We have 0 cell service won’t out Wi-Fi so that’s my concern. The issues isn’t so much that he runs off but he isn’t shy about being in the road. We don’t have a ton of traffic but the traffic that we do have travels quite fast well above the posted speed limit. Both my across the street neighbors have dogs so that is what is luring him across. Can you set up a perimeter that will give birch a correction? Like a tone or zap?
