At my BIL's there's 3 trunks needing to come down because they are shading a small garden area.

    These 3

The 2 on the right are actually a single tree with 2 leaders.

    The canopy is outlined here

My plan is to drop them along the tree line(towards where I'm taking the pictures) using my rope puller. It'll be something less than 90⁰ from their lean.

    Here's the twin leader

And again from the back side

Other than the lean, they should drop right along the rope pull direction.

The felling is scheduled for this coming Sunday morning.

I just did a similar job on a double trunk black birch at my house that was leaning over my roof and into my power lines. :picard:
Nice size to work with Mike  I'm sure your BIL and his garden will appreciate the extra sunlight.

    Agreed.

There are lots of other black birches through that wooded area. I'm sure their branches will spread into the available canopy space, over time.

Good luck Mike. Hope all goes well and without any problem. Looking forward to follow up pics.

Kinda reminds me of the birches i took down last Summer at oldest stepdaughters.

Word of caution, BB barberchair easily. Not a problem if no one is standing around when they get pulled :)

    Thanks!

There will be ratchet straps in place, above the face and backcuts.

You are braver than me. That has disaster written all over it for me. I would be telling whomever to call a professional. Good luck...

Yeah, i consider myself to be quite capable when it comes to dropping trees, but I don't like that lean... I'll be interested to see how this goes.

They were quoted $600 to drop them.

I'll see how the 1st, smaller one goes and adjust accordingly for the other, larger two.

    No felling of trees today.

Showers earlier has left everything wet. Wet stuff is slippery. Best to err on the side of caution.

Smart call Mike. Any wooding when its wet is not fun and can be hazardous. Got a wet load of cherry i have to unload this morning. Couple storms came through here overnight too.

You sure you can’t expedite the drop? I’m starting to get chest pains from all this salty, buttery popcorn I’ve been scarfing down over here ;)

This effort is on indefinite hold.

My BIL was able to trim back branches that allows sunlight to reach the garden area.
