Part of the top out of the hung up basswood broke off and came down, that's what I think it was. My day was spent by the outside fireplace, I still had some stuff left from last fall along with a bunch of dead branches that I've taken over this summer. I still have enough dry pine near the fireplace with kindling that it was easy getting it going with fire starters. The winds picked up so I let it burn down (still had coals) so I poured a bunch of water on it, about 25 gallons. About 10 minutes after I poured the water on the fire, the winds stopped.
I finally made my way to a certain area I hadn't been in a while, the trails have taken a beating from the hard rains (more trail work) most of my time was spent picking up downed branches across the trails. The last place I checked had one small rotten cherry across the trail and a good size pine that is down. I had planned on some saw time on the downed maple but the wife wanted a few trails on our property but not near the house mowed so I did those and more around the house that needed it. I did have an appointment this morning in Potsdam NY which took two hours out of the day.
The wife ask me if I would clean this top up which I did today. I took a total of four loads (three pictured) out of the small gully. Three loads were cherry and the fourth was birch. I still have a good weeks worth of work just off the gully in certain areas left. I did get some smaller rounds of cherry and ironwood out of todays work.
Cut a couple so-so ash trees that were too close to the dock's winching tower yesterday and then hand split and stacked them today. The tops were half dead. Too hot for me for that kind of work.
Seems like that property is a never ending wood cutting trek! Nothing wrong with that. Way to keep after it Zap!
Thanks Brad but this should've been done a year ago, just getting lazy the older I get. I hope I get most of it done this year before winter and the heavy snows hit. Some will go in the outside fireplace and some will go to the town wood dump in the utility trailer. I can get rid of it faster hauling it to the wood dump but I like doing that when it isn't raining since the area we would dump the wood can get wet.
There are certain parts on the house property I like to keep clean and the wife wanted this gone so that is done. We also have more ash to fell back there so before I make another mess, I clean this up so I can make a new mess.
He didn't mean it Zap! Go easy on him, now! Obviously, he doesn't subscribe to the same fundamental beliefs of "GIBIR" !!!!!!!
After receiving 3.25 inches of rain overnight, I took care of the branches from yesterday and another four loads from today. Usually I'll stay off the trails (picture 3892) when we received this much rain but after checking some, I decided they were good.
Another hot day here.......and windy. The only loads I took care of were picking two loads of laundry off the line!
He's a good man but when the boss wants them gone, they be gone! We have washed out roads (dirt) and another road next to the river that is flooded, it might happen in the spring but never in the summer.
I came up with that years ago, I never felled a tree for around five years. I "wood" run around and buck up all the downed tops or trees, get it before it rots.
The crew showed up at 6:30 this morning to start work on installed the new septic system. They got stumps pulled, hole dug for the new tank, old tank pumped and holes poked in the bottom of it, pup wired. pipe laid and covered by rock, fabric, black dirt and clay, seeded the area and spread straw over the newly seeded area. Not bad for a days work. All that's left is to pay for itPictures tomorrow when I am more awake.
