I am not new to lawn tractors but we never really used a hitch on ours growing up. It would help to see your hitches before I weld up a stronger mount. The tractor hitch hole is a necessary for my spreader and lawn dump tailer and I dont want to remove the ball all the time. I figure while im at it I can make it stronger like the store bought adapers... Do any of you use a lawn tractor hitch mount other than the accessories hole on the back?

Right where I want to be.
When I first put the ball on there Pete, I got a little carried away a few times and took some turns a little too sharply, which caused the trailer frame to hit the tractor bracket and bend it a little cockeyed.
I bent it back to somewhat normal, and it still works fine. Like you, I would like something stronger though.
Not sure what a 1/3 cord of wet Oak weighs, but I've used it for that a LOT for over 7 years.

Thanks dave! I do want it stronger too. I want to make it taller also because of my trailer and splitter height. Really is to cener the weight on the wheels of the trailer and not the mower.

I posted this pick on your other thread. Works good so far, you do need to be careful when you get the ball above the center point of the rear tire. It will cause the tractor to want to tip over backwards more than normal. IMG_20140902_174247697.jpg you can see were my doughter was backing the small trailer around with the "hole hitch" and tried to run over the trailer.

    Her's what I use . http://www.greatdayinc.com/lawnprohitch.htm. http://www.powerequipmentdirect.com/lawn/garden-tractor-hitches.html. It's aluminum ,is pretty much a direct bolt on ,and costs about $60 bucks .

Pete, I want to fab something for my Deere LT180 to tow my splitter around. But like you I don't want to give up my regular hitch for a cart. In thinking of modifying the rear weight bracket I have and welding a receiver into it. The bracket hangs on two bolts on the side of the frame and is secured with two pins. The bracket is nothing more than a piece of 3/16" steel bent into a square U. It's a very strong hookup, plenty for what I could realistically move with this small tractor.

Pete, if you post a photo of the back of the mower/lawn tractor you want to add a hitch to it will be easier for others to offer suggestions.

On my Gravely, I used a 12" long piece of 3" x 1/4" angle iron. I drilled a 1/2" hole on one side then cut the off the sides at an angle from the hole to the outside.

(The bar above the hitch is to hang the grass catcher on.)

I have a dolly I can hook to the mower to pull the trailers. Trailers have too much tongue weight for me to hook them directly up to my mower.

Nice idea with the dolly. Only thing is this city boy can't back up a hay wagon. That would be the only problem with that

Semi trailers are a piece of cake compared to a hay wagon.

I drove a semi too, still drive on occasion and can back up pretty good. The hay wagon deal throws in another pivot point and complicates things.

Then when you have 2 hay wagons or gravity wagons hooked together, you have a real challenge! :picard:

You tried to plan ahead to where you didn't have to back them up when ever possible. :binoculars:

Awe, life on the farm, does it get any better than that?

I used to put up hay for an old timer back in high school. That guy could back two hay wagons into the barn on the first try every time. He knew how to pull up and line them up just right and just when to turn the wheel. I'm sure it was pretty much muscle memory after having done it for 50+ years on the same tractor....he sure made it look easy.

I saw that. Im thinking about making it an attachment that doesnt move but instead uses a single swivel wheel in the middle right under the hitch. Either way you guys have some sweet setups!

Im going out to get a pic right now for yall...
