FBM find. 45 minutes from home. Had to be in the area anyhow. Havent scored beech in a couple years so an added incentive. Not only was it big, (32" at the stump) it was a heavy sum beech. Random length of course. After an hour or so i had enough plus it was getting late.
Mixed it up. Some was noodled, some with Isocore, some sledge and wedge. IMG_3661.JPG IMG_3662.JPG IMG_3664.JPG IMG_3667.JPG IMG_3668.JPG IMG_3663.JPG What was left behind. IMG_3666.JPG
Didnt wanna full load being that far to travel. Solid face cord. AC in the PU felt great on the ride home. IMG_3665.JPG IMG_3669.JPG

You’re on a roll Brad. I have a feeling we’ll all be up to our eyeballs in beech within the next few years, due to this new leaf disease. Lots of dying canopies I’ve seen in my travels.

Yep, the few beech I have on my property have the disease. Someone mentioned on this forum to harvest them fast once inflicted. Guess they rot fast.

Yeah beech has a shorter "shelf life". Most one year seasoning woods are a year or so IME.

Yo Bud. Remember that logging truck of Blaxk Locust I got? Just came home from a party the logger who gave it to me was there. Told me he’s got a ton of black locust I can have. Just cleared three acres of it. Some huge ones he said.
Now I don’t know if it will really happen. His son sells firewood, not sure why he wouldn’t take it. But I’ll send a message to his wife as he said and see. Might have been the beer talking ;)
If I get it we’ll have to have a fall GTG and everyone can back their truck under the conveyor :)

Heads up. Nice storm coming your way. Anything outside you want to keep dry better run and get it. Heavens just opened up here. Doesn’t look as bad near you but the radar isn’t kidding this time :)

Tornado warning in Tolland Windham counties. Channel 8 & 30 interrupted broadcast. NWS confirmed.

    Getting darker here.

I forgot to ask the guy if the tree was dead or alive when i PMed him last night. Felled within the last couple months. Lots of beech are half punky when they break off. Luckily this one was fine and solid all the way through.

We’ve got a lot of Beech in SoVT. Unfortunately, the bark gets some disease and a lot are dying off. A few of the bigger ones stay standing for quite some time and just rot in place. Kinda interesting.
