Hi guys, I'm building a new house and want to install a trap in the concrete foundation where i can drop my wood directly where it's going to be stacked. My cousin has a small door like the attached picture, but i had one quoted and it's 650$ CAD so I'm looking for cheaper options! I would definitely appreciate your suggestions! Thanks!
There are several people here that use different methods that don't involve lugging wood or pellets down stairs. Hopefully they can give you soem good ideas.
Hello X2 A wood chute or a nice Conveyor belt? Nice Wood Stove and register above to bring up the heat Brenndatomu! Is that an All Nighter?
If your foundation isn't done and is going to be sticking out of the ground like that, building a door like that shouldn't be a problem. Have the foundation guys leave you the opening you need. Cutting down a solid core door would work. Or since we're spending your money add a bump out on the foundation like a you would for bulkhead doors. Make it like 8x8 and instead of a bulk head, frame a room without a floor and doors to the outside so you can dump like 2-3(maybe more) cord in the at once and just leave it right there.
What's your grade going to be where you want this opening? In other words is the outside dirt right up to the 1st floor or is it only 1/2 or 3/4 of the basement wall? The more bsmt wall showing the easier (cheaper) this gets.
Thanks all for your replies! It's flat ground, there should be 3-4 feet sticking above ground. It's actually going to be under my concrete patio!
Got basement windows with wells? That's where mine is. Made a simple plywood cover with a hinged door in the middle. On the inside is a 12"x1" wide plank with 2" skirts that can be lowered from a hold point on a joist via small pulley & rope. Gotta bend down to toss the wood in, but it lands 8 feet away from the wood furnace. I know of no simpler way to get wood into a basement. Stacks located just outside where the window well is. I had a grandfather who also used this method. You have a mess to clean up when finished from the pieces landing on the floor, but no big deal...sweep it up and toss into the burner.
2022 wood migration here is my method using scrap 2x’ and a slide I got off Craigslist. It goes up for a weekend or two in the fall then I take it down. If I could do anything different I’d use a slide without the whoop de do.
