Got home from work yesterday to find that all my loose stacks of smoking wood had been purchased. I got to work filling the roadside stand, starting with mixed hardwood. I got the cherry, oak and sugar maple refilled before daylight ran out. Looks like another good week in the making. Moderate temps have helped. I also got my first CashApp payment. I put the QR code up over the weekend. A customer grabbed a couple bundles last night and scanned the code. We'll see how that works out. I've been using Venmo for about a year. Anybody else using electronic payment?
Interesting. Venmo is probably 5% of my business. I like cash better because there's no (electronic) paper trail...but I also want to give options to the customer.
Interestingly, I went home for lunch, saw one of my stacks had sold and found the customer paid with Venmo. I think it helps having a number of payment options.
Got some maple and cottonwood bucked today and then flipped the splitter to break up some oak and maple. I'll get a tote of wood split before I'm done today. Sent from my moto z3 using Tapatalk
Another delivery from the tree service that supplies most of my wood. I need to find time to get it cut up. Yesterday I got a message from a guy that has a BBQ business. He's selling his house and moving and has a large pile of cherry and hickory rounds. We agreed that I would come next weekend to re-home it. I'll give an update when it happens. Things are shaping up to be another busy week for the roadside stand. I made a quick trip home at lunch time to find all 3 stacks of campfire wood, 4 stacks of smoking wood and 13 bundles sold in a 6 hour period. I have my work cut out for me tonight!
Had a super busy morning. A BBQ guy is selling his house and moving out of state. He had a stockpile of cherry he had been splitting. He needed to get rid of it to show the property and asked me if I would be interested. How could I say no? We brought home 3 trailers full plus a load in my truck. I'll be splitting for a long time but I won't run out of cherry anytime soon. Some of it is small but I can use most of it. Sent from my moto z3 using Tapatalk
Haven't posted much activity lately. About all I've had time for is keeping the roadside stand full. Today I got a message asking for a bundle delivery. I dropped off 8 bundles to a new customer at a lake house rental. Venmo payment received before I even made the bundles. We stopped for ice cream on the way home. It was a good trip! I've gotten a few things done this week, with mostly cooperative weather. One of which was working on the huge pile of rounds in the wood yard. I stacked a rack full of hickory rounds and split this cherry. You can't even tell the difference but I'll keep chipping away at it. Sent from my motorola edge plus 5G UW (2022) using Tapatalk
It's slowed quite a bit the last couple of week but still holding above last year's sales. I'm around $550 for the month so far. Hopefully I'll have a good weekend to bump that up. If I could knock out about a cord of production for inventory, I'd be happy.
I got about half a rack of wood bucked this morning before being attacked by a swarm of bees. Fortunately they only stung my head so nothing important was affected... Sent from my motorola edge plus 5G UW (2022) using Tapatalk
Yikes! Thats scary but funny. You find a nest? Yellow jackets? I lifted a tarp at storage yesterday to drain a puddle and thought of bees. I usually find a snake.
Funny now. Not so much in that moment. I never saw the nest but there were a bunch flying around when I went back out. I've avoided the area since. I believe they were honey bees. Sent from my motorola edge plus 5G UW (2022) using Tapatalk
I bought a trailer load of wood and had it delivered yesterday. Mixed with a good bit of hackberry. Pretty nice stuff overall. Most will be resplit to the smaller size my customers are used to. It filled another half tote that I didn't take a picture of. It's fairly dry so I should be in good shape for the next several weeks without getting into what I already have in storage. Yesterday while working at my wood shed build i was pulling texture 1-11 off the back of the old one to increase air flow and got stung by a bumblebee. First for me. I couple other buzzing around and i could hear a faint buzz in the stack inside. Mental note take as i left after that. How did the finger heal up? Full use or tingling?
I'd definitely avoid that stack unless you have a can of bee and wasp spray in your hand. Finger feels good most of the time. Still don't have full range of motion but it's enough to get me by. Sent from my motorola edge plus 5G UW (2022) using Tapatalk
