Best of luck in your search; I always tell my new to me dogs, stories about ones that went before them. Usually the best traits of each previous pets.

    Hats off to you.
This sounds very similar to what we went through. Had to put our yellow lab down after 13 years , brings tears to my eyes just typing this.
Like yourself things were just way different , too different to be normal. We lasted three days and caved in for a Black Lab. You will never replace what you had but at least our life seemed kind of normal anyway.

A year later we got a second who happens to be a half brother to our first. You want to talk about keeping your mind busy.

Nice that you will be giving a pup a second chance and a forever home.

My sincere condolences and sympathy for losing your Dixie. We experienced this recently with our Millie and I can feel your sadness and pain. Treasure the good times you shared with her.

The change in routine is so hard. After losing our macy a month ago. I still wait at the door after letting millie out thinking Macy's coming right behind her :(. I'll be in the yard and yell "come on dogs time to go in". After 12years it's gonna take a while to adjust. I'm so thankful that we still have millie but she has her own set of health problems that may cut our time short with her as well.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Hammerhead20

Sorry Man. Seriously. I have no words to make it better, I can only assure you that myself and many others have been where you are before. We know.

Thanks Piney. This morning was the "pitts". I got up looking for her to come walking in to start our normal day.... nothing but emptiness. Time will make it seem better but she will always be there in our memories. We have both decided to step up our efforts to find another doggo who we can spoil and nurture.

So, so sorry. As many have said it is hard and something a lot of us have been through. We are very attached to our 9 year old Auusie and my wife even more that she is retired and home with him. We went a year after losing our last Aussie and we still talk about things he did. They all have a unique personality. It hurts like heck when you lose one but the love you receive in their relatively short life is so worth it. Prayers for y'all.

Oh man, am I sorry. She looks like a great dog. I hope (if trained a bit) she helped you on many hunts. Sorry for your loss.
We we also have a dog that is in her last years. She's almost completely deaf and is getting visible cataracts. So we love her as much as we can. But, we will need to change to carpeting when she is gone........if you know what I mean.

Well, the wife and I have been rocked since the weekend. Her especially because she & Dixie spent 4 years working towards a number of awards. Dixie was a super dog and very talented for sure. We will always have a special place in our hearts for her. But alas, life goes on. We have no children so our fur babies are our kids. That being said we move on and bring another into our household to be spoiled rotten and loved dearly. We are meeting a family this afternoon who have a pure bred 3 y/o yellow lab they have had since he was a pup. Unfortunately, their 2 y/o daughter has developed severe allergies to him so they are faced with rehoming him. It looks like a good fit to both them and us. We will venture forward and hope for the best. If it works out it will be a awesome birthday present for my wife's birthday tomorrow. We shall see............

Well, we have moved forward a lot quicker than I ever imagined. We just arrived home with our new to us fur baby. We welcome Augie, a 3 y/o Yellow Lab to our world. He is a super pup that unfortunately lost his first home due to their 2 y/o reacting with severe allergies to him. He will be loved and pampered here for sure. He doesn't realize it, but he has just won Orphaned Dog Lottery.:thumbs::thumbs:

Thankyou, yes he is a fine looking doggo and a great personality to go with it. We were lucky to get him.
