My tree guy spent some time cleaning up his yard yesterday. He dropped off 5 loads. This will keep me busy for a little while. Lots of oak, a fair amount of silver maple, some ash and some poplar at quick glance.

What do you do with the nasty crotch stuff? I cut them into 4-6" long pieces for my parent's huge box stove. Doesn't need to be split.

If they split ok I sell it. If it comes out nasty looking I burn them in my wood boiler.

Love it!! Your scrap gives you heat and hot water!
Solar panel gives you AC and pool pumps
    Your efforts give you $$
Side benefits.. teaching youngsters during school
    Work ethic in summers!!

    Great plan

Thank you. Being free from utility bills is amazing and if I couldn’t burn the scraps, I’d most likely have to pay to get rid of it.

No Goldilocks wood though. All good things come to an end.

Did you come across any of these reforestation plantings while you were there? It’s my understanding that when the first Norsemen stepped foot onto that island, it was completely forested. After a few centuries of settling, General commerce and grazing, it all vanished. Good to see efforts being made to bring some of it back, albeit it’s a slow process.

Yes. We came across some. None too terribly large though.

Worked on firewood the last 8 days in a row. Decided to “go down the shore” as we call it.
