For the folks in the know about New Haven pies: Modern, Sally’s or Frank Pepe’s? Gonna be down there for a night in the coming week. Have had Pepe’s at Mohegan sun it was ok.
I’ve always been a Pepe’s fan; even have a t-shirt. But I have to say, Modern has been on point lately. I grabbed a pie from there awhile back and told them I’d be eating it at home a few hours later. They par cooked it for me and gave me baking instructions. It tasted like it does right from their oven….just at home. And within walking distance from Modern: Italian Restaurant in New Haven, CT Some of the best pasta my wife and I have ever had. There’s an easy accessible parking lot that’s not too far from Modern. It’s one of those pay at the kiosk, put the ticket on your dash type of thing. Plenty of people from CT here! So ask away as far as places to visit or restaurants.
You Guys need glasses for your taste buds!! Modern !! And Pepes at the Casino? oh-boy...............stay home and get Dominos.
Thanks, original plan was at spend the day and catch a concert in the evening. Some stuff has come up and I’d be happy to just make the show but would like to get dinner before if time permits.
Good answer , perhaps the best answer. Sure everybody has their favorite , any from that area are amazing. Kind of like a Ford /Chevy battle or perhaps Husky/ Stihl discussion. Just eat it!! We are lucky to have this so close to some of us.
We made our first pizzas this year. We do the kids first so by the time we made ours we had our timings right. The old Mr Pizza oven needed a new propane regulator this year. It has a lot of rust on it, only a matter of time and I'll have to replace it. Those Ooni ovens sure look nice.
I hear you, I am dancing with the idea of an Ooni...but I barely use the Blackstone that I had to have and truthfully, how many pizzas am I gonna cook!
We could make a lot of pizza with three sons. Unfortunately, they get tired of it. The cost of take out is such that we will be making our own a lot more this year!
We try to use the Ooni weekly, it’s a fun way to cook dinner. And amazingly cheap when you make the pizza yourself.
Unfortunately didn’t have time for pizza this trip. Did enjoy the westville music bowl tho. Excellent venue.
We pass through there a bunch going to visit the in-laws in PA. We will stop one of these times. Usually it’s a driving goal to get past Hartford. I don’t care what time of day you pass through there the traffic always sucks! The Elovaters, Pepper and Stick Figure were the bands that we saw. Thankfully the rain held out for the most part.
New Haven: at some point in your life, try Mashed Potato Pizza at BAR New Haven. However I love making homemade pizza better than going out for it.
Lol Great place. I can’t help but laugh The first time I went there we walked into the back room and everyone was dancing. I turned around and there was a bunch of girls dancing. What’s wrong with that you ask? They were all wearing rubber suits and wearing gas masks. Wackiest thing ever Don’t let this scare you. The pie is great.
Looks great. Best soda ever as well. Another New Haven thing. We have it good. Throw in some Hummels and that's 3 for the win!
