Backwoods Savage ( Dennis) called me today to chat and it reminded me I haven't been on here since the GTG. Back on May 3rd I had a heart attack while at work, It wasn't a severe one and I drove myself to the hospital (caught a lot of flak for doing that from people at work and family) I had a stent put in due to a 99% blocked artery and discovered I had Afib. I don't know if I had the Afib prior to the heart attack or not, but they wanted to do a Cardioversion where they shock your heart back into normal rhythm. I was given the option to wait 5 weeks to have the procedure done and I took it so I could go home. On June 13, I had the procedure done and was told it was successful after two attempts and I went home. About a week later I could feel my heart doing something funky that lasted about a half hour and went away and I felt fine. On June 27 I went in for a follow up and they listened to my heart and said they wanted to do a EKG. They discovered I was back in Afib again and scheduled another Cardioversion for August 8. I Feel better in some ways and worse in others. The Afib comes and goes and kicks my butt, making me feel tired and lethargic for a short time then back to feeling normal. I'm trying to make some better healthy choices and hopefully the next procedure will take care of the Afib and I can continue to improve how I feel.
Don’t get yourself worked up over it. Seriously. july 6th was my 8th anniversary for my stents. I was 45 at the time. I’ve had 5 angioplasty surgery since and had one more stent put in. If you have a family history of this, even less reason to get worked up over it. just do your cardiac rehab and keep your nitros handy. I’ve since also been diagnosed with Microvascular angina sooo. If I seem like I’m downplaying it, believe me I’m not. Just be aware that medicine has truly reduced the impact some of these conditions have on people. I say that because there are so many people making recoveries that let them carry on with a pretty normal lifestyle. And making firewood is a good exercise to work with your cardiac rehab team towards getting back to.
It came as a shocker to me. jdude has always been a healthy and active guy. It had been a long time since I'd heard from him so I called. Take care, my friend.
jdude, I have a good idea what you are going through and thank God you had a early warning. What they can do is truly amazing but the waiting for for the procedures can be nerve racking. Best wishes on your road to good health!
It was great talking to you yesterday, I'll keep you updated on my plans to come North sometime later this year.
They haven't suggested that yet, they did say if the next Cardioversion didn't work, it might be something I have to live with. They don't tell you a whole lot so I'm going to be asking more questions in August.
