Has anyone seen or know anything about these Kei Trucks? I know very little about these things. The Wikipedia page or a short trip down a rabbit hold on YouTube would give you a much better description than I could. I tend to find novelty things like this kind of cool, but I saw one downtown outside a brewery we have and it was like seeing an alligator on a mountain. Since then I feel like I've seen them everywhere.
I don't know alot about them but I too wanted one, pretty badly, til I found out parts can be a pain to find and if found are either pricey or have to be shipped into the states, maybe things have changed since then. Also saw prices for some and there was no way I'd pay them, I could get a can am side x side instead.
I see a couple of those zipping around the North Haven area. Cute vehicle for the small hoarder. You thinking about getting one RGrant?
I daydream, but I live on a postage stamp and have 2 little kids in car seats. I’d have an easier time justifying another motorcycle than one of these. … but they do catch my eye….
We used them for scooting around in the military. I liked them for that, and admit one would be handy if you had private land over a couple thousand acres. Nice and quiet. The mitsubishi we ran had a dump bed, but we were always over loading it with concrete. They are about three times cheaper than a UTV.
A couple guys have them, drive to work. Our shipping dept has one, they drive to offsite warehouses in it, it's a right hand drive model.
They come from Japan and are very common over there. Several brands make them. The streets and areas they use them in are pretty congested, and the people in general aren't as big as Americans tend to be. They have vans, firetrucks, scissor lift trucks, dump trucks, etc. Now that they can be imported to the US, they are getting pretty popular here. Right hand drive and usually stick shift. Usually around 50-60 hp. I did this video on them with my son, who knows a lot about them.
Legitimate alternative to a side by side. The single cabs are not really for corn fed men. They have extended cab models though.
If they came LHD I'd probably think of them a little differently. I wouldn't want to goof around in a RHD. I'm not a smart man, but I'm smart enough to know driving around on the right hand side aint for me. I'm also soft, so seeing that they come with heat and AC is nice. That would be a major impediment. Having a truck of some sort would be pretty good, but aside from the logistics of where to store it, I could be compelled to get one of these one day. 4WD/heat & AC would be pretty awesome.
Ah, no worries. I'm not in any imminent risk of buying anything soon. Daydreaming is free though luckily. I can afford that.
We have one at work. Mitsubishi I think. About all it gets used for is firewood hauling. Pretty stiff suspension so you can load it up till it’s falling off the sides and barely even squats. I have posted a few pictures of it in other threads
I seen a one on FBMP over the weekend for $2500, 89k miles, looked decent shape, but said it needed a head gasket. It was 4x4 too. Think it was a Mitsubishi
One of my neighbors in CT imports them and sells them. He flips a lot of motorized stuff on FB Marketplace and recently imported a few of these for sale. I dig them. Cool little rigs.
If you travel to Asia there's all manner of neat little trucks and vans. Unfortunately small vehicles get into a crazy mileage requirement here and to meet that requirement would require an unobtainium fuel. Pretty much why mini trucks and UTEs are gone. Have to get like 70 mpg and up. Then they want to crash them into things and see how easy they roll over, without mangling the dummies inside too badly.
I thought about using one for an animal trapping vehicle to get to a small farm I trapped on instead of a 3/4ton truck. The price I found one for was $20-25k, roof rack, army green new paint.
