Not a load of wood yet. Heading out on a 4 hour drive to parents. They had a tornado and 100 mph winds hit the county. Heading up with chainsaws, oil, gas, skidding chains, chokers, axes, cant hooks, and 2 tanks of propane for generator my dad has. Power was out to half the county and the closest town. No gas or sales to replenish supplies without an hour round trip.
Thanks. Everyone is fine. No people or buildings damaged. Just trees down all over and power lines down. Most of the power is fixed after 2 days. The county has 7000 people and over half lost power initially after the storm. Several places had 1/4-1/2 mile of power poles snapped off. I drove by some local coop guys with 8 line trucks just finishing replacing one stretch before lunch. Several local businesses are offering free food, coffee and drinks to the linemen. Everyone pretty much helps their neighbors in this part of rural MO. We checked on a neighbor about a mile away this morning when we saw black smoke in the sky. We were afraid something caught on fire after their power was reconnected. He was just starting his brush pile on fire with some blown off shingles in the pile. He smiled and waved us on. We got my parents, and both home place farm steads cleaned up. Two 70 hp tractors with brush grapples help a lot. My 86 year old grand father is feeling ill today.... probably because he did too much yesterday. Those old farmers never learn. His home place farm was purchased in 1903. 120 years of us cleanup after storms. We're getting ready for grilled burgers, brauts, strawberry pie, chocolate chip cookies and home made ice cream.
It’s tough to hear about the damage. And it’s also nice to hear about people coming together to help one another out.
A few more storms rolled through and MIL lost power for 4 hours last night. Heard of a roof blowing off a house. A far as I know no deaths or injuries from storms. Not bad and no new damage on any of our places. 7.5" of rain in 4 days. The rain was very much needed. No measurable rain for almost 2 months. Area was 12" below average rainfall last week. Stores and restaurants are open again. Several had to close first due to no power, then to clean up after food went bad. Typically power outages only last a few hours around home. Probably several places looking at getting back up generators. My parents had enough fuel for 2 days. With the tanks I bought they have roughly 4. Dad already had a 500 gallon propane tank waiting to be plumbed to the generator just hadn't happened yet. Kids and I are heading back home tomorrow afternoon. Hope everyone else has good fortunes with the weather.
F250 with a utility body. She wasn't on the bump stops, but she did squat! Brought home 3 loads of Ash. If I'm cutting & hauling wood, the day is always hot!
Yesterdays stacked and went back for another load. Thinking I may get the remaining in the next load, maybe. Last picture is of my little furry helpers I had this morning.
