Looking better and better Brad. All these pics of wood sheds and cribs makes me envious. I cut my rounds pretty consistent but I'm no where near the stacker as Goat Town Firewood!
I just blew thru this entire post, absolutely awesome buddy! Love seeing repurposed lumber being used. And the stacking? Well, that's definitely "FHC Pro Status" if I've ever seen it! Looking good, buZZsaw BRAD! If you was closer I'd have brought the stump grinder up and gotten rid of that PITA issue yiu had in a hurry ....but it appears you got the job done suitably.
I've definitely gotta step up my game! I've dreamt of building a big woodshed for YEARS, had plans to do it, BIG PLANS.....just always setting else to do (namely TREES!!). Once this pizza oven and other chores are done around the house I'm gonna have to get serious about it. Prolly mill alot of my own lumber for the build.....
Thanks Scotty! Im big on repurpose/reusing stuff. Got that from my late mother...she was a pro. The fact that i often have it available to me is a huge plus. My hoarding mentality helps too. Monetarily i have VERY little into it. When complete ill figure how much the materials wouldve cost at full retail price. Just waiting on roofing screws. This shed will only hold bundle quality splits (at least thats the plan for now) so the stacks are nicer. The "B" grade splits go for general cordage as i call it.
Well i guess im a wood snob! My main criteria for a score is the quality of split that comes from the logs. Having a lot of nice straight logs around here i dont take gnarly logs. Ill noodle those into nicer pieces if i get some. When i end up with C grade splits they are top cover weights or get stacked on the very top. Ive been known to cut them in half and toss in the nugget bin. In your case you take what you can get and do your best with it.
I discussed this in a recent video about stacking. Most people with perfect stacks are using perfect wood or are taking a really long time to stack.
I don't really enjoy stacking wood so I don't take much time positioning splits as they get put on the stack. Some of these pics look like they fine tune each piece. It's darn impressive.
I think I'm slowly becoming a snob on wood too Brad. It's just not worth the effort to split the ugly pieces or screw around with irregular pieces. I'm starting to look for that A-grade logs with nice splits in mind!
The shed is looking great! Your repurposed and scrounged lumber shed looks better than anything I could build with new materials. As for the perfect stacks, it's different when you are selling wood. I CSS for my own use so if it burns I keep it. I have a lot of uglies and my stacks are pretty ugly too. It's fun to see these perfect stacks and dream.
Ive loved jigsaw puzzles since i was little. Fond memories of doing them with my mom and sister. Not the kid ones either...500-1000-1500 pieces. I guess my stacking comes from that. I would yell at my dad for his stacks and used to unstack and redo them!
