Looks like I'll be starting a few take the chill off fires the next few days. Highs in the 50's rest of this week.

Been thinking the same thing Todd.
I can handle the 50's, it's the 30's overnight that'll make me want a fire.
I'd REALLY like to wait until October 1st this year, but ma nature has her own idea about that. I'll follow her lead.

Much warmer here, but I keep looking at the Alderlea and the stacks and saying softly to myself,
    "Soon...Very soon...."

Its not unusual to have a few fires in Sep around here but it sure seems like this snuck up on me this year. summer went way too fast.

We usually start on Sept. 15 each year but since we have some Hemlock left from last year, we'll get going a few days early.

We decided over coffee this morning that we would push some firewood in tonight.

Looks like we might be having one this weekend if canning and roasting tomatoes and peppers doesn't get us warm.

I've average probably 2 fires a month through July and August, with the occasional cool, rainy night.

Now that Labor Day has passed and I opened my winter 14/15 box of SuperCedars, I would say it's burning season. Had a little fire to take the chill of last night and woke up to 37 degrees out. Getting the chimney swept Friday afternoon and still contemplating adding a 4 foot extension to improve my draft, but the jury is out there. In 3 weeks I'll be burning daily.

I saw a forecast for a couple nights near the weekend in the 40's, this house is super - insulated but I already convinced the boss into letting me open up the windows and build a fire in the NZ3000!!

I feel like it's Christmas weekend!!

Last week of Sept. has been pretty standard for our start time the last few years.
As usual, I have extra wood in the shed, but no idea how much I'll use with the new stove.
I'm curious, so may start early.

I usually don't have to fire it before the first/second week of October, last year was early at the last week of September, looks like this may be a new record.....

Punch that ticket, start that sucker up!

The more you burn the more room you have for that better wood! :firepit:

It feels cooler, I think because of the rain, but I doubt I'll do a fire tonight.
We need a pic if you do.:)

Always amazes me how early some of you guys start - especially when its folks well south of me like Scotty.

Its going to be 80F here today, and highs in the 60s/70s for the rest of the 10 day. I haven't even started to think about sweeping the flue yet....

    Scary,

    :hair: :bug: o_O

    Way early,
I hope to make it into early Oct before needing to light up.
Usually have a few fires the last week of Sept though.

I have NG, I let it kick on in the AM to get the house to 68°, then it stays warm thru the day.
Still getting some solar heat gain thru the day.

We usually have some fires in September but they are usually in the last half of the month.
