Travels with Mike

I'm down in Hyannis, on Cape Cod for a few days.

Nice day today. 80⁰f, hazy/smoky sky. Rain layer.

At the Cape Cod Canal, looking northeast.

I just dealt with these guys. Total weight 2.5lbs.


I'm letting them cool down before busting up.

Meanwhile, rehydration with a Beach Blonde Ale, from Cape Cod Beers. A wheat beer. I had a growler refilled.

Then, the entrance to Hyannis Harbor

 

I went early to the annual Hyannis Car show. I'm not a car guy, but it's a nice walk as they close main street. Going early means you get to watch and listen to the cars roll in.

We were at the car show around 10am the place was packed!


We had lunch at Brax Landing Saturday. Dad drove a seafood delivery truck for a while and said it was one of the few places that got daily delivery. Worth checking out the food was great. Get there early to avoid a long wait.

 

My day started at the east end of the canal.

Nothing doing. so I went to the west end of the canal.

I decided to walk from the RR bridge to the Bourne bridge. Nice walk








I smiled when I saw this place


Made it to the Bourne bridge.



Heading back

 

I headed over to the JFK Memorial. Nice, quiet spot.....until people show up.






Nearby, is a Korean War Memorial

Nice beach onsite.

This looks out on Lewis Bay, through which traffic to/from Hyannis Harbor passes.

Two people ferries heading in opposite direction.

 

I then headed to the Cape Cod Bay side.

Great area Mike.I spent many summers there in Hyannis at our cottage , Main Street is one of those places we always went to. Why? I have no idea but it was just part of the Cape experience.

 

Candy and ice cream shops!

 

For me it was always the army navy store down at the far end just before Dunkin.
Candy used to be a true " penny candy " store , now I am really dating myself.

Hope to get there for at least one night later this summer , Dads ashes are spread at Grays Beach so I need to pay him a visit.

 

I worked on a old house right near Barnstable Harbor. The boards they had for attic sheathing were 1 inch thick white pine 24 inches wide 16 feet long. Perfectly clear, not a knot on any of those boards. These pictures definitely take me back to some fond memories.
