Had a doozy come through last night here in Oklahoma! Been through several tornadoes and a end all be all ice storm but this was a stand alone event. So far I had heard of one fatality - heart goes out to that family, I can’t imagine what they are going through. Tree fell on the house I heard, other members of the family were hurt but non life threatening. Prayers for them. We lost a few trees on the property but blessed no structure damage on either place or at my office in Tulsa . Spent all morning helping my aunt get a tree off her house and cleanup here begins next week. Hard to balance being excited for all the free firewood and knowing there is at least one family dealing with a loss tonight. Hug your babies and tell your folks you love them.
Had a tornado come thru our hunting lease in TN back in February. Lost 2 good tree stands, but gained some great red and white oak. Its always unfortunate when lives are lost tho
Those microbursts are no joke we had one few years ago. Ive never seen anything like it and didnt know about them until that day.
Scary stuff. Tragic there was a fatality. Saw some video of the damage on the weather channel earlier. We had a microburst here in June 2015. I got caught in it and a gust hit my PU. Felt like someone grabbed the side of the truck and shook it as hard as they could. Amazing some of the tree damage. Be sure to post pics of the bounty you get.
Ugh. Memories of 2012 and 13 days with no electricity at home. The mess that was left over the property after was overwhelming.
Wow! That’s quite a storm! Tough to hear about a loss of life and property damage. Glad you folks remained safe.
Hinerman mentioned that storm on an OPE Forum thread. I am glad that you & your family are ok. I understand the mixed emotions of seeing all the firewood vs the the destruction & loss of life.
Working on a big black walnut this afternoon. Not my favorite wood to burn but it is old and probably not good for much else. With throw it in the mix ! Pictures tomorrow or later this week. Had three big oaks come down too so that will be a good add
Its highly valuable! I know its not great wood. Ive only scored it twice. Splits like cake. Id take more only for the novelty factor. Smells like iodine when split.
In 1995 just south of here by x amount of miles was hit hard. 25 years later, remembering the Microburst of 1995
My daughter is still without power. She has been staying with us. My wife is loving it, seeing how she has our only grandchild, a 9 month old baby girl!!!
Yes, no problems here. But, there were a lot of people in Muskogee without power for several days!!! Tree services everywhere...
Yeah same here. I lost a few trees and been super busy. Green waste is a 3 hour wait , just got off the phone with a local guy and he is going to start dumping his logs here. Gonna be in the wood this year for sure.
IIRC that was storm hit by my dads camp in Wolcott VT 14 inches of rain is bad.. worse at 2,800 feet. Beaver dam failed glad you and yours are safe Mykidsdadd
Straight line winds are no joke. We've experienced them a few times. Glad to hear you're ok. Last Friday we had a microburst with 75mph winds go about 5 miles north of work. I was in the shop and watched it roll in while the weather alerts went crazy on my phone.
