Bark is slightly different then other silver maple I’ve collected but the tree service that dropped it said it was. Around here seems like every other yard tree is a silver. This one was also a bit heavier as well.
Welcome Noth! If I have the authority, I declare that you win the internet today! Cool truck, massive rounds.
Local haul today in VT. This was across the street at our neighbors place. All wood from trees that fell over the winter. Birch: With some pine: Squattin’ in our driveway:
Currently I’m on the single crappy saw plan. I’m running a 455 rancher, which I know might be the least favorite saw on FHC. I’ll be upgrading at some point but for now I’m working on upgrading the splitter.
Welcome I ran a little Home Depot bought Echo CS-370 for my first 9 years I think you’re doing just fine with that Rancher and workhorse of an old Chevy.
Nice. Every year, I say I'm 'upgrading' my splitter. (I'm still hand splitting... 5 stinking cords a year)
No shame in a 455 Rancher. Obviously it works based on your picture. Those saws have cut 10s of thousands of cords of wood. FWIW, I would rather cut with a 455 and a sharp chain, than a ported 562 with a dull chain.
The same species of tree can look different in different areas/regions. I do see thousands of helicopter seeds on the ground, indicating some sort of maple; maybe red maple...
I think I made a pickup load just of noodles off that tree. I just stand the blocks on end, dolly them to the truck, and they are tall enough just to tip and then roll in the bed. Not fun but the truck doesn’t sit very high.
