I don't have any equipment that hasn't been "over-used" at one time or another... I'm always wrenching, cutting, welding, and straightening stuff. Glad to see you use it, not just look at it... Although the first scratch, dent, or ding usually brings a little tear to my eye!!!
It's easy to add gussets that support the first 1/2-2/3 of the teeth. I have done enough work fixing grapples to know that you will be very happy with some gussets.
Been thinking about it. But it would have to add minimal weight. I need all the lift capacity I can get !
I'm game for that. I've been looking for a reason to use my little inverter flux core welder . I'd love to see some pics on how you guys did your work. I've got a pretty good idea ..but want to see !
HoneyFuzz depending on your age, it's possible I haven't welded anything in your lifetime. I'd have to say it's been about 30 yrs since I did any welding. Could run a "fair" bead back then.. I'm sure it'd look like lumps these days.. without proper penetration.. or some burn throughs.
Lol...I just laughed out loud ! Sounds like me. I hadn't welded in years. I recently picked up an inverter DC arc welder..and inverter flux core welder. Both 110...as I dont have 220 here . Been a struggle to relearn arc . Burn through...chicken scratch welds lol. But the lil Titanium flux core 125...that makes me look darn good. Such a good lil welder ! Thanks for the laugh..your not alone !!
Best picture I’ve got of the grapple I have. Rips small underbrush out with ease. Almost like a rock bucket more than anything.
No pictures, but here is a rough sketch of what they should look like. They don't need to have a real wide base, but they should extend to within 2" of the tips. You can make the gussets about 1/2-2/3 as wide as they are long. Nice little triangles. Weld them in solid. You might bend the little tips over in the future, but it's easy to straighten them with a big wrench. I have done a pile of straightening and welding on the neighbor's grapple and rock buckets. He bent some big teeth real bad trying to pry stumps out. Got em straight and added more gussets. Pretty tough now.
I was getting mad when I saw this thread, thought y'all was makin fun o me. Is that something for roots, STUMPS!? When I was 13 or 14, my PE class was playing dodgeball (of course). I went for a ball flung in my general direction but so did a boy that was a good foot taller and heavier. Idk bout the val, but when I went to catch myself on the gym floor, his weight landed on my head, which was face down. I still remember seeing my teeth fragment outward. I only broke one front incisor and shattered the other, but I bled profusely. Broke two "permanent" bridges after the gluing everything back together didn't work. Anyways, can you tell that you triggered me? It was very traumatic then, but I'm good now.. So you'll have to call me something besides snaggle to hurt my feels.
Ouch!! Reminds me of when me and my sister were kids. Chasing each other around the public pool, she slipped and bit through her tongue and jammed her two front teeth up into the jaw. They did what they could, but the teeth were severely damaged and with the roots buggered up, they turned blackish from lack of blood. She dealt with that for years unfortunately, one of the first things she corrected after starting to work. I for one would never harass or judge one with any physical impairment.
