Killed an hour on the build today. Scored more 8' 2x4's at Lowes and PU an 8' 2x8 for half price (cupped and milling damage). I may use it for the end joist even though its not PT. Maybe use some oil on it since its close to the ground. Finished center wall and set. I wanted it a bit taller but not enough longer 2x4's. Ill crib stack ends as needed. Stacked a wheelbarrow full of splits too.
Stacked a few wheelbarrow fulls. Noticed the top plate 2x4 had a good crack and the freshly stacked wood was making it worse. Added a second 2x4 to the top and an extra brace. May stack more tomorrow.
Did some digging and chopping around the stump. Need another beater chain so i can set the end joist. I was on the tired side after work so didnt feel up to it. Stacked several more wheelbarrow fulls. Two cords in there now. Stack is 7' tall.
Even more stacking today. Closing in on finishing the fourth row. Its been almost all red maple which is nearing the end. The rest is pin oak which should fill another row. Eight face cords stacked
Dint feel like building after work today so i stacked and stacked. Finished fourth row stack. Fifth row all pin oak. Cleaned up and stacked all the logalanche splits from the shed. Afternoon sun really hits this spot good Few more wheelbarrow fulls of oak to stack and its ready for fresh wood. Hope to get the rest of the floor done this weekend.
You’re gonna have it stacked full before you put the roof on. But I wouldn’t expect anything different LOL
Well, ya know.... ya don't know where the roof is going to go, until the stacking is done. Otherwise, it might be too low.
LOL!!! I have a 4x4' section of floor to finish and end wall to build first. and set front and back "beams" Dont have enough 2x4's for rafters and the end wall yet. Maybe enough metal for 2/3 of the roof. It gets some really good afternoon sun there during the Spring and Summer. So much so i noticed the last full row listing from baking in the sun. Also wanted to get this stacked and the weather has been dry, not humid so been pushing myself after work. All this was moved with a wheelbarrow from the front yard. At least ill have something to stand on when i build the roof. I was crazy enough to walk on it yesterday. Pic from above.
Good one Mike. The lone 2x4 is a rafter. The front support will more than likely be a 2x6. Need to scrounge a couple 10'ers for that. I have a 12' 2x12 i may rip in half, but hate to sacrifice it for that.
Not sure if you noticed. I have one 12’ length of metal roofing left over from the conveyor build failure. You’re welcome to it. Save me the hassle of trying to get it stuffed into the rafters of the garage I second the sapling rafter idea.
Its been sitting behind my shed here for a couple years. $5 in a cull lot. No brainer not to buy it. Good idea. What am i thinking. I know a guy with a mill and 10' capacity. Now to find a big enough log and get it there. Cue mission impossible theme here! Bottom edge live on the support???
