Matt's got plenty of strong saws to test it against. I think it will be good for what we're wanting. Maybe not for a true work saw. I didn't try it in any wood with a bar bigger than 20".
That's the beauty of chain work... I can make a chain for just about any type of power band. I cut all afternoon on that big Pecan tree with a little ole' 562 and a 24" bar... Never had a hard time staying in the happy rpm range at all... chain was filed with a little more hook and rakers around .025.
Yes that is. I was using a Mac SP125 and the chain was throwing dust so I helped it out. It had to use a light touch or it would stall it out. I put too much hook on it and didn't touch the rakers.
Got her in my grubby mits now... I think we'll call it Lee's Black widow... laid waste to the Dolkita... Still sorting out the proper tune with the rev limited coil... I think it'll do most of it's cutting right under 13,000 rpm wearing an 8 pin. Been through 2 tanks so far and just keep peeking at the piston every so often.. Some time in the next couple weeks, we'll see how she fares against the 064... That black makita bar is just sexy on that saw...
I really need to get up to the mill and score a 12" cottonwood cant... Or Poplar... Everything I got here has knots in it...
I guess what we did to it might be a good thing to do on a few others. I think I've got a deal worked out for one for me to experiment on.
Matt's is strong. I want to try one other thing with another one just to see. It may not work any better or it could make an even stronger one. It's thinking outside the box for sure though.
