It has been eight years with our Ideal Steel stove. We love it and it heats soooo well! Sadly, it was one of the earlier generations and needed some updates. It had developed the steel crack near the upper hinge. Also, the tertiary air inlet often sounded like an alarm clock of late.

I contacted Woodstock and coordinated a trip out there to bring the old girl to get fixed up and refurbished. The Mrs. and I had an opportunity to take off a week around our anniversary, 20 years!, because the boy was off of school for the week. Lorin, made sure everyone was ready and we made the trip out to Woodstock.

We first stopped off in Niagara, Ontario from Friday night to Sunday morning. We checked out the falls and left early Sunday morning to head to White River Junction/West Lebanon. We were in the parking lot at 8 or 8:30 am Monday morning, and they even took the stove before they opened. The wife and I did a bunch of stuff all week and picked it back up Friday morning.

Woodstock really took care of us and it was a pleasure getting the tour and meeting Lorin, Tom, Paul, Jeff, Beka, and others. Some of the work was warranty, but we also wanted to pay to have it gone over and anything fixed.

Here is what we had done:
New face welded on to fix the crack near the hinge
    Fixed flap on tertiary air.
    All gaskets replaced.
    New sled.
Couple of pieces that had warped were replaced.
    Got new/different andirons.
    Had it repainted.

It is very sharp and we have had a couple of curing fires already!

Let's see if the pics are small enough to load...

    Wow, looks great.

THIS is the biggest reason I wanted a Woodstock when I was shopping. Alas, the clearances wouldn't allow it.

Sounds like a fun week, glad you enjoyed it.

Congratulations Coach. You now have a new stove.

I'm sure you enjoyed seeing the factory and meeting the people. I've been there a few times and always enjoy it. Also, Tom and Lorin are the tops!

I keep waiting for you! I'm not sure how many more I'll have or even if I'll have one next year.

Very nice! What a deal to have them bring it back to new for you….

Didn’t any of the Soapstone needed to replaced? How about the secondary burn plate?

It looks like one piece of soapstone was replaced dear the door. The secondary burn plate was not replaced, but a couple of bolts were.

Top notch company there!!! I have (almost) the same story minus being able to visit their shop in person... I had all the same things repaired and replaced after I think 7 years with the stove. BIG difference in my story was I live 2800 miles from Woodstock and they did EVERYTHING on their dime and wouldn't let me pay for anything...

Freight shipping both ways (5400 miles) and all repairs done with not a cent from me, after the stove was 7 years old. Unheard-of in today's market.

Beautiful stove you have there, and an awesome story!!

P.S. I'm flying to Washington DC in 2 weeks, wonder if I could rent a car and take a trip up to Woodstock...

We did the train from Woodstock (White River Junction) to DC and it took 11 or 12 hours. Driving would be about the same.

I <3 that indexed throttle control right on the front. Unfortunately that's far too big of a stove for my house.
