Small mulberry on the edge of our yard has been there since i can remember. Noticed small berries on it yesterday. First time ive seen it do that. Not looking forward to the mess they make or red polka dots around here from the birds. I can remember one in my late moms yard that made a mess when it berried out. Do all of them produce berries?
Mine took several years to start producing berries and they're a darker maroon, or purplish color. They're quite tasty.
Im hoping for white berries so when the birds poop on my PU it wont be as noticeable! They love to perch on the ladder racks.

Well i guess it will be a pain in the AAASSS when they start pooping and trees start growing! Im wondering what the landlords son will do when he encounters the berries while mowing? I could always cut it down for firewood!
I had to look it up but apparently mulberry trees are either male or female, (called dioecious) with berries occurring only on female trees. That would explain why the mulberry next door to me has no berries despite being 25+ feet tall and is growing in abundant sunshine. There’s a gigantic one at the bottom of my road that’s the same way too. Now I’m really glad I tossed the mulberry seeds I was saving instead of planting them. I’d be frustrated if after nursing a utilitarian tree along for several years, it produced no berries.
Gads..... With mulberries, the females have the berries. With humans, it's the other way around. Roofers and vent pipes 'eh? Forget about the view from other places, but the pitch of the roof would make those acts precarious. .. Another thread for another place....why are men drawn to target practise? Eric, even if the tree didn't reproduce,you'd still have a tree to cut eventually.
