Some people on a chicken channel I follow use linoleum or peel and stick tiles on the floor inside below the roosts, for clean up & no moisture on the wood, that might help on the inside.

 

The white dog is birch, my pyrenese puppy. I posted him somewhere in the giz Emma thread back in the fall. Old tree still there, I'm not messing with it! Yikes!

Some friends have had this on their property for around 3 years now and it works flawless. I'll add more pics in a little bit. The YouTube install video explains it well. Would work excellent for your property at your turn around area or at the beginning of your long driveway.

The powered arm system.....




The lockable sealed circuit controls and dual battery compartment (you can also use a larger deep cycle battery)




Solar powered, this is just a 10 watt, good for 8 cycles here in North Country. They also offer a max 30 watt panel good for 20 cycles- there is also an ac power hookup






The zombie lock (wired) auto locks and unlocks as you use the keypad or remote. The wire simply zip ties from the end of the gate to the control board. Can also manual lock or unlock, comes with 2 keys.





Illuminated key pad, you can keep the master pins to yourselves, but create a different pin for others/ friends ect. On both the remotes and the keypad, you can set party mode (keeps gate open until you disengage party mode) or vacation mode ect. The gate has the option to auto close anywhere from 6 seconds to 60 minutes.





You can activate numerous remotes. One for each car, another for the house, ect.





There are many other options which I did not get. Some options are wifi camera at the gate, auto opener as you drive to a certain point with your car, tractor ect, a sensor up to a couple hundred feet from the gate, many more options. Lemme know if you have any questions. You can utilize dual arms and 2 gates or 1 arm and 1 gate. I wanted a 14 for gate but the supply store was out. I went with a 12 footer which is fine. Room for a firetruck if need be ect.

He's a puppy but certainly started showing his skills on the property early on and more and more everyday. They are gentle giants and would fight a bear and a pack of coyotes if need be. I am working everyday on property boundaries as they will roam for quite a distance if allowed to. Have some friends 2 pyrenese that wandered 12 miles from NH into VT.

If Scotty Overkill is in the area and wanted to mess with it, he's need his climbing gear for sure me thinks!

 

A whole sheet of linoleum works best. I did this and it makes cleaning the entire coop an easy process. Putting a designated "poop shelf" directly under the roosting bars (95% of the poo will land here) makes life easy. A wider roosting bar helps them stay warmer in cold climate as they can blanket their feet with their feathers much better. Chickens can easily lose toes from frostbite.

 

Went to see Mom and Dad… brought back some lettuce, radishes, and spinach for the girls…



then you have the one adventurous one…

 

I just used (reused electric conduit that I had bought for tomatoes supports)… I welded them and baling wired 2x4 welded wire fencing to it…
